GT500 into super reverb 65
It still sounds like a super reverb
and a strat just overdriven I love
it. The booster can make it sound
like I have the volume at 9 without
busted eardrums. and the distortion sounds like
a heavily overdriven Super ... together
pure fun!

ABS :D

+1 good sir!

I have an old one from the 80's and I like it more than my TS808HW, which cost a heck of a lot more.

I use my Fender's own drive channel (ehhhh, it's not that bad, once you get it set right), and I also use my own creation from BYOC (Build Your Own Clone - http://www.buildyourownclone.com )... A TS-808 clone that I built from their kit. It sounds awesome! 8)

Oh....what I forgot about mentioning earlier is generally I crank up the gain on the OCD and find myself using the volume knob on my Telecaster set about halfway or less and just go wide open with the volume knob when it's time to play lead. It's a nice touch which works on both the Hrdlx's clean and gain channels. Keeps things simple and me from buying yet another boost pedal or overdrive.

Good solid pedal. If you like the Boss way of doing things, try out the recent Dynadrive pedal if you get a chance..

I like the things I'm reading about the OCD, but there's been a few other ideas that have piqued my interest as well. Thanks for the input, guys! :D

I still use an old TS-9. It's a great sounding pedal for what I use it for. I'd really like to check out one of the Fulltone Plimsoul pedals though to perhaps use for some tunes that need a little more drive than my TS-9 will give me. I've heard lots of great things about them but haven't heard one in person. There's youtube videos, but.....well that's kind of pointless. Anyone tried one?

Haven't tried one....they only had Fulltone's OCD and MOS FET drive pedals where I went shopping. I wish I could tell you the difference. I also bought a Fulltone Supa-Trem the same day. Both sound awesome and are built like tanks. I don't think you could go wrong trying the mail order thing as usually you can just return for credit at most places and they will even pay the return shipping. I have done it before with Sweetwater and Musicians Friend. For what it's worth the Fulltone stuff lives up to the praise it receives.

Butler Tube Drive
or
Pete Cornish Pedals G-2, or SS-3,

Price is high but you get what you pay for.

Butch-- How tough is it to build a pedal? I checked out the B.Y.O.C. site and am really interested by the idea but not sure if I'm up to the challenge.

There is a book called "Electronics Projects for Musicians" by Craig Anderton. It focuses on guitar stomp boxes and is quite good! It gives a enough info on theory and how to read a schematics and whatnot without being too intimidating. There are some pretty cool projects too....OD, Distortion, Compressors, and then on to things like phase shifters and envelope followers, talk boxes, etc.

Paul Cochrane Timmy - slight grit
Barber Direct Drive - crunch
Keeley Katana - boost

Keeley modified TS9 - off the pedalboard, but will use for practice.

I know a lot of folks like Fulltone, but I've also heard horror stories of his customer service; friend from another forum sent in his wah to get fixed; before any work was done he was told it would be $40. He said forget it, and now Mike won't send him back his pedal.

Glad that people are getting great sounds out of their pedals, but I'd rather support guys who make great product and have excellent customer service -- all three of the guys above have for me.

That's an interesting point you make on Fulltone's customer service. I have heard that the guy there is a bit of an eccentric thru tapeop magazine. Considering the warranty offered with the gear that is a bit surprising that he would get funny over 40 bucks. It figures...there would have to be a downside.

I saw a few clips about the Plimsoul and it sounds pretty incredible. Anyone using one of those?

I used to play a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde (the original grey box one) through my Hot Rod Deville. I say used to, because the J&H was on my old homemade pedal board that was stolen, and my HRDeville was traded. I know the Jekyll side is another TS808 clone, but it was just dripping with SRV tones when playing my California Series Strat(that was also stolen). Then the Hyde side was the other hard rock side of me, that I used to record with in my last band. Check it out at: www.myspace.com/Kemistery.
