I've been looking into OD pedals and things have come a looong way since the days of the Tube Screamer and nothing but the Tube Screamer. I've been looking at the Fulltone OCD pedal and would love to hear some thoughts from "real" owners. The Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD sounds interesting, too. Or does someone have another pedal they'd recommend? I'm still trying to narrow down my amp choice to either a Deluxe Reverb RI or a Blues Jr., if that helps any. Also, my taste in Strat tone follows the Holy Trinity: SRV, Clapton, and Gilmour.

Thanks in advance!

Steven

I've been using the Fulltone OCD for a number of years and been quite happy with its capabilities.

I have been using a Hardwire CM-2 and for more grit I punch on a Digitech Screamin Blues at the same time..

I use a Fulltone Full Drive 2 MOSFET with my BDRI. Goes from a nice bluesy overdrive to a Neil Young "exploding amp" sound with the twist of a couple of dials.

I just bought an OCD pedal this weekend. I LOVE it! You can't beat it for the price. I always thought Tube Screamers were a bit too snarl-y for my tastes. You can set and forget the pedal and then by doing minor tweaks to the tone controls on the amp or your guitar, or even with the volume pot on your guitar, and get a really different sound for each tweak. It's incredible. Try it on the overdrive channel on the HR deluxe with the drive set around 5 and you will get some really heavy sounds even from a Telecaster! NICE! As far as I can tell, Fulltone doesn't make anything less than excellent effects and yes...Fender amps like 'em a whole bunch.

Been using a couple of AnalogMan modded Tube Screamers. I finally came up on the waiting list for a King of Tone. It is the cat's pajamas! Hopefully will have some more time to play with it, but so far everything sounds great.

Another fan of the OCD here, it's rarely not plugged in! Absolutely awesome overdrive.

Oddly, I often use it in conjunction with a cheapie Biyang OD-8, which is a surprisingly decent pedal for hardly any money. Very Tubescreamerish, but with a lot more flexibility, but seems to only work in front of a Fender amp for some reason!

Another cheap pedal I use a lot is the Joyo Ultimate Overdrive - Yes, I went on a random cheap Chinese pedal buying spree a while back. It sounds and feels so close to the OCD it's ridiculous, but has a certain flavour of its own which I rather like. Fattens up the bottom end of a Strat very nicely indeed, particularly when run in conjunction with other overdrives.

(As did a lot of other people when one company repainted the case, made all sorts of claims about designing it, got several artist endorsements and sold it for about $200 before someone opened one up and noticed the Joyo markings scratched off the circuit board. )

Other than that, my DIY germanium fuzz pedal is always on my board. It's not pretty, but it works rather well.

I love my Creamtone by G2D, you don't hear them mentioned much around these parts but they are a great sounding OD with Boost pedal made in New Zealand.

Here's a demo:

I use a number of different overdrives and they all sound good through my Vibroverb... Timmy, Zendrive, OCD, Analogman TS808TV, Fulltone 69', MXR Custom Badass Distortion.

The OCD has a flat EQ and the crunch is nice and crisp, no muddiness at all. It's great for playing rock.

I use a Maxon TS808 with my Fender Princeton Reverb.

Cheers

Fulltone all the way.

It's either the OCD or the Fulldrive 2 Mosfet.. Can never make up my mind :? If Fulltone made an OCD with the flat mids option from the Fulldrive, then I'd be happier still.

Also depends on the guitar I'm playing - I fancy the OCD is very slightly more suited to Strats and P90 equipped guitars, and the Fulldrive slightly favours humbuckers. But it's not critical and I'd happily use either whatever guitar I have in my hands..

I have the Fulltone OCD, Catlyst and GT500. They are all excellent OD pedals although the Catalyst is slightly different. It's an OD pedal but it also seems to incorporate just a hint of fuzz. The GT is actually two pedals in one cuz it has an OD side and a Dist side.

I am in love with my Boss SD1 Super Overdrive. That pedal is so sweet when I use it to boost my leads!
ABS :D
