To all,

I picked up a new Blues Jr NOS about 5 months ago.

Upon ending a song when playing at rehearsal or gig, the blues jr's tone will completely evaporate leaving me with a scratchy, thin sound at about half or 3/4 volume. This typically happens after the amplifier has been pushed at high volumes. Then, all the symptoms stop, and the true amp tone comes back within a minute or so. Also, I have never experienced this while playing, only after I've stopped, which boggles my mind, because the amp doesn't know that i have stopped. It's an amp! It is also worth noting that whenever I mic the amp and play at lesser volumes, this problem has not arisen.

The easy solution is to not turn the amp so high, but I do believe this amp is designed to perform better than it does.

Does anybody have any insight on what my issue might be, or has anybody else ever experienced my problem?

When I experience symptoms, the settings are typically: V:3-4, T:3, B:10, Mid:12, Master: 8-11, R:3.

I appreciate any help.

Andrew

Possibly it's ready for some new glass -- OEM bottles are not the most durable tubes to be had. Take it into an authorized service center and see what the tech there has to say about it.

Hi Bent Nail,

Are the output tubes plates getting red, before and/or after playing at high volume? The BJr is biased very hot from the factory (high idle wattage), and some brands/types of tubes run hotter than others, in the same amp.

It could be a few things, but going from your description, I would first suspect the output tubes, maybe even a preamp tube. Tube substitutions with known good tubes would be a good place to start.

And the setting that you listed aren't that loud, I like to run mine with both the vol and master at 12 sometimes, it gives great controllable feedback. :o
