That sums it up. If you're happy with the results, that's all that really matters. If someone else would choose to spend his money in another way, that's fine too. There are plenty of people who've spent a lot more and gotten a lot less.

I had a "discussion" with a guy once who, after having played my Strat, confronted me with "the way you got your guitar set up, I can't play it!"

My reply was "that's just great. I'm not asking you to play it. I set it up for me and no one else."

He wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree . . .

8) Well really, it all comes down to personal preference, the blues junior, IMO, is not for everyone. I own a blonde blues junior and love it. I do have to say it took me awhile to get the settings right where I want them to get the sound I was looking for. It also depends on your style of music. I turn the master volume to full and the regular volume to 3, tele guitar volume to halfway, back the tone knob a little off of the delta tone & I don't use any effects pedals. Back to the amp: treble on 4, bass on 6.5 and middle to 2, reverb on 3. I really like the tone from these settings, now if you want to break it up a bit, hit the 'fat' foot switch, you'll get almost a slight distortion. Again, I think it is all personal preference. Good Luck & I hope I helped. 8)

Blues Jr.: Change out the tubes, the speaker, futz around endlessly wiht the controls, add pedals, start modifying the circuit, and finally find one or two usable sounds.

5E3: Plug in any guitar, set the dials anywhwre, sound awesome.

I'm just sayin'.

IMHO, Nothing better than a 5e3. Dynamics are what it's all about.

It's a circuit designed by Leo Fender in the 50's. It's a Tweed amp. If you watch the video posted above, It'll explain it all. If you're handy, you can build one yourself from a kit, or just buy the parts.

Chet - I did the same and then some on an BJ NOS: Celestion Blue, Mercury Magnetics OT & PT, JJ Tesla/EH Tubes, Ruby Tubes reverb, all the BillM Mods and some other stuff that would take too long to type.

Was it worth it? Yup - I had a blast, it sounds great to me and yes, I know I basically paid $500 @ GC for a Tweed Tolex covered particle board cabinet (guess what is next in the works...that Walnut cab is looking good)

Could I have bought a designer amp and saved alot of cash? Absolutely... then I'd swap out the speaker, replace the tubes, do some mods... next thing you know I'm in three X on a boutique amp.

To each his own, and I'd do it again.

What was that about a pipe?

Ditto.

I own a BJ. I take it out when I don't need a big amp and don't feel like lugging my 1/2 stack. I use pedals with it though to get the options of sound I want.

Question though, is everyone's knob labels upside down? You know the volume, reverb, treble, bass etc. plate behind the knobs... you have to be standing behind the amp to read them. why? No other amp I've seen is like that.

No, they're suppose to be "backwards." They're all like that. I remember reading that guitarist use to position their amps at the front of the stage, therefore standing behind the amp. It is odd that they still make them that way.

I just brought my Blues Jr NOS home today ( after a 2 month back order). It's going to a lot of fun getting to know the nuances of this amp!

Hi,
I guess I'll jump into this conversation, I have a blonde blues junior and I love it. IMO, It really depends on several factors, 1) what type of music you play (I play blues, some country & not much classic rock), 2) what type of tone you like & 3) how much money do you have to spend. When I first got the amp I too was somewhat disappointed in the sound and tone quality and I thought I had made a mistake, it has taken me quite awhile to get both to what I like by continously adjusting all the settings. And now I think it is an awesome amp, I play an American standard tele and an American vintage 57 strat through it and I couldn't be more happier with the sound & tone. I don't use any effects pedals at all. Remember this amp is not a 57 twin or a twin reverb, I don't like to make any mods to any of my gear, I prefer getting all my sound and tone from stock instruments and amps, (cable+guitar+amp=perfect ). The blues junior is not the answer to everything & if I'm going to spend 1200 bucks it wouldn't be on mods to a blues junior, instead, I spent 1200 bucks and bought a 65 twin reverb (the greatest amp ever - my thought anyway). What it comes down to , is all personal preference. I do think though, if I already had a GDEC, and depending on my budget, I probably would not have bought a blues junior, only because it is so close to the GDEC - on cost that is.
I probably didn't even help you :( ---- Good Luck, 8)
Here is what works for me: Clean: reverb=off, master volume=full, volume=9, bass/treb/mid=5 (can be adjusted to liking).
Dirty: reverb=3/4, master vol=full, vol=10, bass=7, mid=2, treb=2
