Hello. I bought a twin reverb off of a friend about a year ago. The "Normal" channel works perfectly! but the "Vibrato" (the reason why you get this amp) pops at FULL volume randomly and when you move the volume knob. and that is LOUD. Ear bleeding loud almost. So i called around the local stores. They all want like $75 just to LOOK at it. then maybe send it off to get repaired... i dont want to pay hundreds of dollars just to have this fixed. i already paid a lot for it in the first place. so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of how i might get this fixed myself. Ive asked a few amp builders online, they all said they dont work on the reissue since it has printed circuits. i dont know much about amps. but i would really like to learn. one of the local guys said it sounds like ac on the volume pot. how do i get in to fix this? haha. thank you for any help. sorry. i know how it is to read this stuff from someone who doesnt know anything about it yet. but i am trying to learn. thank you!

You don't know much about amps and you want advice on fixing a TRRI? Do you know how to read a schematic diagram or wiring diagram? No? Then my advice is to shell out the $75 and take it to a professional. You can kill yourself in nothing flat by poking around and touching the wrong thing. If you insist on doing something, try replacing V2, V4, and V5 in that order. If you are lucky, you might fix the problem and live to tell about it. If that doesn't do it, call a pro.

You might try spraying some De-Oxit onto the shaft of the offending volume control and spinning it from stop to stop several times. Remove the knob first so you can apply the cleaner directly into the pot. If this does not work I suggest (strongly) that you heed bluesky636's sage advice.

If the contact cleaner doesn't work, prolly needs a tech to look at the soldering. I've had similar symptoms when the solder around the reverb driver and recovery tube sockets were cold. This requires pulling the amp outta the cab and running the thing on a bench. (= Good tech needed).

Good luck with the fixit!

How old is the TRRI and did you get the original sales receipt. If it less than 5 years (or is that 10) it's still under warranty.

It was probably purchased about 2006 or 2007 brand new. I am not sure if the warranty is transferable or not. I bought this from a friend who bought it new. That would be nice though if it was still covered! And thank you all for your help! Really appreciate it! :)

If your friend did not give you the original signed sales receipt from when he bought it, it is not covered under warranty regardless of when it was purchased.

Hi Austin141,

Lot's of good advice so far. It could be a simple matter of a bad tube associated only with the vibrato channel. First thought is V2, but could even be V3 or V4 (reverb), or even V5 (vibrato).

You're getting slow shimmi. I beat you by 26 hours with those tube recommendations (except for V3).

:o I guess that must be where I got the idea.

In that case, I agree with your brilliant suggestion. 8)
