the pilot light is soldered to the board, and is itself red - I want to re-place it with a clear light, then put an amber jewel over it.
What kind of light do I need to do this?
I am proficient at soldering, etc. I've had a bit of a rough time getting a comprehensive
answer from Fender

Thanks!

when i got my deluxe someone had solderd a led to the base of a broken bulb, worked perfectly until i too, wanted to change it amber, it was a red led... i just resolderd a white led bak in, you could do the same, just measure the voltage and counter it with the apropriet rezistor...

i have a blues deluxe, the light runs at 6v in mine, im not sure if its the same on yours but there should be some info on the bulb in urs, just look at the can, there should be the bulbs voltage, wattage and how many amps it draws...

as far as i know there should be a proper bulb socket in the amp, if its still under garuntee id take it back and ask...

also, ive noticed that some bulbs create a bit of hum on the speeker, as i put a bulb bak in before i put the led back, the led creats almost no noise at all so my amp is almost silent... and besides that, the led should last a hell of a long time and it dosnt get hot...

May be what you can do is use an used bulbe, remove the glass, drill the base, solder a resistor, solder the other resistor tap on the white diode, the other tap of the diode soldered around the lamp. Just make sure anode/kathode are at the right voltage.
As the white led is usually 3.5V, the resistor can be calculated using 3 divided by (nominal current given in datasheet). 8)
(for instance 10mA --> 330 Ohms)
