So I want to connect my Hot Rod Deluxe to my Mustang V cabinet.

On the back of the cab it says Stereo (L) 8 ohms (R) 8 ohms, Mono 4 ohms.

In the Hot Rod manual, it says the internal speaker alone = 8 ohms, internal speaker + external speaker = 8 ohms + 8 ohms, and external speaker alone = 4 ohms.

Should I connect the Hot Rod's external to one side of the Mustang with the internal disconnected, or should I connect the internal and the external to both sides of the Mustang, one on each side? I just want to make sure I don't blow anything up.

TIA!

It is said that the HRdx internal speaker is 8 Ohm, when you connect an external 8 Ohm in parallel to the internal 8 Ohm then the global impedance seen by the amp is 4 Ohm. Now if you connect externally only , 4 Ohm is optimal.

Regarding the mustang cabinet, you can connect one 8 Ohm/100W side in parallel the HRDl internal speaker or connect both cabinet sides on the HRDl without internal speaker.
Let us know the sound result.

There are even pictures in the manual to show various connections. In particular note that the main speaker jack must be used in any configuration. If you want to use this particular cab by itself in the 4 ohm mono mode, unplug the internal speaker from the main speaker jack of the amp, and plug the cab into the main speaker jack of the amp and a dummy plug (open/empty plug) to the ext speaker jack of the amp. The dummy plug is to switch the amp to 4 ohm impedance, as the ext speaker jack is a switching jack.

Or, with the amp's internal speaker disconnected, plug one side of the cab to the main speaker jack of the amp (8 ohm), and the other side of the cab to the ext speaker jack of the amp (8 ohm), for a total of 4 ohm speaker load. Using the ext speaker jack of the amp, switches the amp to 4 ohm impedance (both jacks used of course).

Or use the internal speaker in the main speaker jack, and one side of the cab (8 ohm) in the ext speaker jack. The external speaker jack in the amp can not be used by itself.

Thanks for the help. I hooked up the internal and the external to each side of the cab. I was pretty sure that was the right way, but wanted to be positive first.

It sounds awesome. I was going to buy the 1x12 Extension Cab, but not anymore.
