Hey guys, I'm new here.

I have been heavily debating buying a Super Sonic head. I just have a couple questions - How loud is this amp? My band plays fairly loud, so I definitely don't want to run out of headroom.

Also, are they reliable? Would they last a tour?

None of my stores have any in, so I was just wondering what I should expect when I try one.

Thanks!

I've had one for about 6 months now, and I gig 2-3 nights a week. Never had a problem with reliability. My band isn't extremely loud but we do push the volume at times, and I never put the head above 3 on the clean channels, and usually sits around 3-4 on the Burn channels.

I use it with the 2x12 supersonic matching cab. It's a fantastic amp, though it's worth emphasing that the head does NOT have a reverb in it (the only thing wrong with it IMO).

Thanks for the response. I will be running it through a Mesa or Marshall 4x12.

Would the SS running at half vol. be able to keep up with a loud drummer, another guitarist and a bassist do you think?

Hi - The Super-Sonic is a 60 watts tube monster. At level 2 on the clean channel, it is very loud, maybe too much for any small venue. Pete Townsend plays a Vibro King, which is also 60 watts, and reported he rarelly plays with his volume above 2, so there you go. The burn channels uses more pre-amp tubes, and the equivalent to level 2 on the clean would be about 4 on the burn. I have the super-sonic combo and I find it unreal when I think about all that power coming out of a single 12 inch speaker. I had my combo for 18 months, never had any issues with it.

I've had my SuperSonic head for almost a week now and I'm loving it more than any amp I've owned right off the bat. Today a pal of mine stopped by and said, "I guess you love your new amp. I heard a strange noise the other day and when I walked outside I could hear you playing". He was in another house 500 yards away. I'm in Canada so it's cold right now and we don't have our windows open, I didn't turn the amp up past 4 on the Burn channel and 3 on the clean channel. It's loud. I feel the Vibrolux setting has more lots headroom than the Bassman setting. It's stays pretty clean with Single coils.
