going over my chassis with a wood stick, brite light, and magnifing glass.
only inspecting the back of tube sockets and the wires that connect to them.
with the amp "on" and all the connections seemed good
& then on the last socket i check (preamp) - i get a sound coming over the speaker when i touch any of the little wires that connect to the socket
only touching the stick to the insulated part of the wire.
sounds just like touching a record player needle with your finger
comes thru the speaker at whatever volume the amp is set to
the two big wires (blk/wht) no sound when i nudge these, just when i nudge the small wires
loud needle record player sound
is,,,,,,,, this normal?

i guess i could pull the chassis from another tube amp i have and check it, but it just has 1 tube for reverb i believe, and this amp has 12at7 for the reverb and 12ax7 for reverb recovery

this socket that is giving me this sound is a reverb recovery tube V4
supersonic 22

maybe this intermittent reverb problem is coming from this?

i purchased this amp with the heavy duty 2 year protection from guitar center, i may just bring it back and give up.
but i kinda don't wanna let her go~

I'd opine that the tube in the offending socket has gone microphonic -- the impact from your probing efforts is being kinetically transferred to the tube whenever you tap the socket's pins. Try a known good tube in that position and repeat your testing to confirm.

Good idea, try new tube there first.

If not a bad tube, sounds like you could have a poor connection there, either at the tube socket or the other end of the wires at the board. Check all associated solder joints closely, they may need to be re-flowed. Of course, power off and unplug amp, make sure caps are discharged before soldering. It may even be a tube socket issue, check solder connections first though.

+1

That's the next step if the new tube does not correct the symptoms.

yeah I had done that yesterday with the tubes, tried a few others that came out of other positions and placed THAT tube into other postions - not tube
so i guess if this sound described is not normal then i need to bring her in- because to ME, the wires all seemed intact well on the socket and to the board

THANK YOU guys for the input
