Just looking for some advice on choosing a good replacement speaker for my BDRI. I mainly play a Strat with CS54's & looking to upgrade to something with a cool vintage sound. I play blues and rock. I have a Blues Jr NOS with the 12" ceramic Jensen & like it alot but I don't want 2 very similar sounding amps. Also don't really wanna pay $200+ for a speaker either. Been looking at some Webers and an Eminence C-Rex. Anyone have any experience with either of these in a BDRI or other speakers?

Weber's 12A150 alnico will really let the tone of your CS54's shine, especially for vintage blues and rock. The Cannabis Rex will provide a punchier, more modern vibe -- similar in some respects to a Celestion V30.

Just don't let a DEA agent hear you playing it.

Considering the C-Rex is $100 cheaper, it may be more bang for the buck. Sound clips would be nice. That Weber has a 8 lb magnet! The C-Rex has a 38 oz. magnet, which equals to 2.375 lbs. It would be a matter of which sounds better to your ears.

$200 for a speaker?! OUCH! It better drip tone like molten metal out of a pot!

I'd buy JBL's all day long at $200 a pop if I could find decent D120Fs and D130Fs priced that low.

What's the problem?

I use the stock speaker in my Blues Deluxe and hook it up to a 2 x 12 ext. with 2-16ohm Texas Heats. I also use a 1 x 12 ext. with a Cannabis Rex with the Blues Deluxe. With the Texas Heats the tone is definitely brighter and has a lot of punch, but can get harsh and piercing if I do not watch the treble settings. With the C-Rex just good thick warm tone, really good and I have been thinking of putting one in the amp itself. I have already put a C-Rex in my Blues Jr. and when I hook it up to my 1 x 12 with the C-Rex it is a good match and loses all of the cramped tone of just using the amp by itself..

Sorry guys, this thread wouldn't be complete if I didn't roll into town to expound the virtues of Gold!

That is, Celestion Alnico Gold - every household needs at least one!

Has transformed my DRRI into something that is divinely sweet on cleans, but a kick-ass rock'n'roll animal when the call goes out.

Feed.
