hi I am looking to use my orange 2x12 cab loaded with 2 v30s and a ted weber z matcher to make the ohms safe.

I know that both speakers = 120 watts and that the Twin Reverb Reissue is 85 watts so it seems to me it should be safe but just want to make sure.

I see the new 100 watt Supersonic Twin Reverb is using 2 Vintage 30s, just want to be sure I won't blow my V30s out, even if I am cranking the amp to 10. Thanks!

Sure that the power is enough, now check the impedance (even if a mismatch is OK, the Twin Reverb is 4 Ohms) I don't know the Orange impedance ...

Hi there hithere,

You got it. The speakers can handle more watts than the amp can put out, so you're good. If using the external cab alone from the main speaker jack (unplugged combo speakers), I would skip the "z matcher", as the TRRI is impedance matched with two 8 ohm speakers, making a 4 ohm total speaker load, which is a perfect match.

If you use the cabinet and the internal speakers together, you can't get 4 ohms even with the z matcher, so I would still skip it. You will get a total of 2 ohms using all four speakers together, and the amp won't develop full power but might sound very nice. The z matcher will affect the tone somewhat. Impedance matching has nothing to do with safety, it is only about achieving the max power from the amp, nothing more. The only real concern is having too high an impedance on the output, open circuit being the worst case. But a 2 to 1 impedance mismatch is not a problem (ie, using a 2 ohm speaker load with an 4 ohm amp is fine).

hey thanks for the quick responses,

I am planning on only using the orange cab which is 16 ohms, so I am a little confused as to how the TRRI at 4 ohms would be safe?

That is why I assumed I would need the zmatcher to correctly plug the 16ohm cab into the internal 4ohm twin jack?

I am not using the internal jensens, just the two v30s through the orange 2x12, no ext cab out, am bypassing the twin's speakers completely, using it as a head in a sense

thanks for the help!

Assuming that the Orange cab uses two 8 ohm speakers wired in series for a total of 16 ohms (verify first) and if you are not using the cabinet for anything else, just rewire the two speakers in parallel for a total of 4 ohms and plug it into the TRRI.

thanks guys!

but yes! I am using the cab for other things, often my vox ac15 that runs at 16ohms!

So without rewiring my best bet would be the z matcher correct!?

In this case, I think so. You did say Orange ext cab, and I was thinking Fender ext cab for some reason, sorry.

Looks that way.

But then, being the engineer that I am, I would run the two speakers in the cabinet to two seperate jacks and make up two extension cables: one with two plugs wired in series for the Vox and a second with two plugs wired in parallel for the Fender. The other end of each cable would have one jack to plug into the associated amp. Maybe not as clean as the Z Matcher, but fun to build.
