My HRDeluxe White Lightning sounds great when cranked to 4 1/2 until I hit a low "G" note on the low E string where I get a horrible buzzzzzzzzz-ing sound. I have had it to a "Gold Level" Fender repair shop in my area. Fender has replaced the cabinet.........the speaker......and the reverb unit. It might be the type of material used for the grill cloth or the amp chassis itself.........I dunno? I can't record with it due to the buzzzzz on the lower notes. Fender and the repair shop stopped responding. What can I do? Fender told the repair place to put rubber washers around the chassis bolts, but it didn't work. I feel the chassis has some kind of buzzzing. SHANE...........I work at a Guitar Center......I an 55 years old and have wasted the last 6 months of my life trying to fix this. Can we try a new Chassis? It's the only thing that was not replaced! I own 4 other Fender amps that DO NOT BUZZ like this! Thanx.

I would give the speaker a good tightening to the baffle. I have seen this before and is quite common. If that isn't it and the amp is new and under warrenty then a replacement is due at this point.

The speaker was replaced by Fender and cranked down hard........that is not the answer. Hopefully Shane can help. New cab.....new speaker....still buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz only on the low bassier notes. My other Fender amps do not do this.......either do the HRD's at my Guitar Center store that I work............the only thing not replaced is the amp chassis itself and noone seems to want to......HELP!

:D Hey Whitelightning, this my not help but.... I'm a bass player with a bassman 250/115. Every once in a while I have to go tru and tighten the screws on my amp. They will loosen up from the low end vibes especialy the chassie screws. What fender might think is tight might not be what your amp thinks is tight. You might try having someone who knows how to tighten a screw without buggering up the haed tighten while you are playing in the range that buzzes. This might work. Good luck.

I just want to know if anyone else experiences this with their amp. The reverb tank was replaced. When played at low volumes (under 4 1/2) NO problem..........bit when it hits the sweet spot (volume)....it buzzes. Only on the low bass notes. Even with the bass and mids turned all the way down. Gets worse when they are turned up. The speaker was also replaced by Fender. The CABINET was replaced by Fender! I guess I am the only one out there who plays loud. I bought the extra cab also, but it didn't help. I would like the local Fender rep to hear it so maybe they can come up with a fix............AM I THE ONLY ONE out there experiencing this??? I love the way this amp sounds.........sad.

:D HI there White Lightning
I had similar buzzing with my hot rod. I did get rid of the buzzing by swapping the pre-amp tubes (all three) from the 12AX7 to 12AT7's. However it changed the whole tone of the amp to a more mellow, blues type tone. Changing the middle tube (V2) also calmed down the distortion on the drive/more drive channels.
Check out my post "Fender Deluxe Hot Rod...(hum noise)" about other griefs I had with the Hot Rod.

I got a new set of SAG Groove Tubes for my pre-amp, which sound great. The BUZZZZZ is coming when the amp is played CLEAN, not with any overdrive. The amp sounds great until I get to 4-5 in volume. Then all the notes sing.........EXCEPT the lowest frequency notes, which make the amp buzzz.........Is this a problem common with the Celestion Vintage 30??? I don't know. Maybe it is just the cab design. I plugged it into a separate speaker cab and NO BUZZ! I love the sound of all my Fender amps. It's just a shame to spend that kind of money and not be able to use the amp in my recording studio...........How did the 12AT7's change the overdive sound? Better or worse?

The sound got mellowed to a kind of bluesy tone in both the clean and overdrive channels. In the overdrive channels the distortion is more controlled and not as dirty and rough. I did get the occasional buzz, but not as much as before. I must agree with you that it may be something in the box resonating or the cab itself and since the 12at7, do not give the amp as much gain as the 12ax7's may account for the buzzing to settle down somewhat, at least in my case. Never addressed the speaker itself.

No, I had the same issue with a Fender amp. i finally took it apart tonight and fixed it. It was as simple as tightening the screws that hold the speaker in place. I'm not implying this is your issue, but just one possibility. My issue was the exact same as yours.

White Lightning,
The speaker is not supposed to be super tight on the baffle. Snug, but not cranked down. The speaker has a gasket on its face that will keep it form vibrating. If you tighten it too much, you'll compress the gasket too much and the cage of the speaker will come in contact with the baffle and cause it to buzz. If you have access to another speaker cabinet, try that. If it still buzzes, it's electronic, tubes, bad solder joints etc.

If you think it may be the reverb tank, remove it. Just unplug it and unscrew the tank and take it out of the amp. It won't cause any damage. Also as a previous poster said, tighten all the screws. If any are stripped and keep turning, that could be your problem to.
Don't use an electric screw driver.

Good luck. It's got to be real annoying.

I have something like this - a mechanic's stethoscope - that I use to isolate noises. You might try one of these things:

I had the same amp and the same issue. It was definitely coming from the grill or baffle. I finally sold the amp because I got tired of fooling with trying to fix it. Pity because it was a nice amp, but I couldn't deal with the rattling.

I changed to JJ 6v6's (I think it was Blues option#2) instead of 6L6's. Amp calmed down to 30 watts. It also got rid of the uncontollable bottom end bass frequencies. I re-biased the amp myself and it actually sounds way better. The "more drive" channel still sounds too compressed, so I don't use it. I am still searching for a distortion pedal that will give me a Marshall sound from a Fender clean channel.
SUPRO............good idea about backing off the speaker screws. I cranked then down hard. The buzzing is still there with the 6V6's....but not as bad due to less bass freq...........I will back off the screws next....it makes sence to me........Thanx.
