I was wondering out of these two, which sounds better at bedroom levels? I need an amp I can gig with as well as practice with, as I don't have the funds for two amps.

I have the TRRI. Replaced the stock speakers with Jensen Neo's, which brings the weight down to about 53 pounds. So it's carry-able, won't run out of power at 85-watts, and has Fender tone. For home practice, I run the amp volume at about 4.5 and guitar (Strat) volume around 6 or so. I've had a lot of the boutiques and many are well-made amps, but nothing really sounds quite like a Fender but the authentic thing. DRRI is also a great choice.

A TRRI with the volume set to "10" will double the size of your room with the first power chord as it blows the walls out.

Go with the DRRI.

+1

As an owner-operator of Twin Reverb amps for over forty years now, I can attest to that.

What about the super? I want something that I can really slam at gigs, but keep those cleans. Is there anything I could buy to heat up the tubes at a lower volume?

The Super Reverb is but half the power of the TRRI but it's still mighty damn loud.

If pushing the output tubes into overdrive while maintaining some modicum of sonic sanity relative to the level that a human ear can comfortable tolerate, you might find the Princeton Reverb re-issue a practical alternative. As "bedroom" amps go, they're hard to beat. But if you intend to gig with the amp, the Deluxe Reverb re-issue is a more realistic choice. If still more volume is required, you can always mic it.

The DRRI is looking really great at the moment. One last question though, just straight up, would the Super Reverb sound better at a lower volume than the Twin?

Would I be wrong in suggesting a hotplate could fix my woes. I could just get a Twin and use the hotplate to drive the tubes?

The Twin Reverb does not produce much in the way of overdriven compression or even-order harmonics even when dimed. A "hotplate" or other similar device will not change that.

So youre saying there's nothing I could do to crank the tubes at a lower volume? Sorry if I'm being pedantic, I just really like the twin. Would running a high gain distortion into it change anything?

Low volume? Blackstar HT-1. PRRI doesn't distort very nicely, DRRI is way too loud for a small room.

Cheers

Alright, I've decided to get the DRRI. Its more manageable in a bedroom setting and I assume in all but the loudest bands its good for band rehearsal and live. And its also a plus because I get those fender cleans and I can save the money I would have spent towards buying a jazzmaster :D my only question is how well does it take pedals? I'm getting a big muff at the same time as the amp, should it be all good?
