I own a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe White Lightning. Any quicker way to break in the Celestion Vintage 30 that comes in the amp, other than just playing through it? How many hours does it take on an average? How will I know it's broken- in thoroughly? What tone changes will happen? Should I run my loop pedal through it for hours?

It may break in a little bit...i dont think it will make a HUGE difference but...what are you concerned with bass response?

Check the "Ask mr Decibel" section on the celestion.com web site. I tried that in two 20 segments and it worked fine for me. Best way is to try that with your amp in a seperate room, and have some ear plugs. The v30 are great speakers, but too stiff when brand new.

On a new speaker I believe that most break in will come within 15 minutes of loud big open cords being played. I think alot of the other things you will read on the internet are hype. Give it a good 15 minutes of loud constant playing and you should have the cone loosened up almost all the way.

Hey "White Lightning",
I also am lucky enough to have the White Lightning edition...first off way crisper than the regular Hot Rod's, actually scared me at first, i was curious if you've had any luck breaking it in?? it really is quite a loud amp with the g12 century vintage in it, i haven't been able to get it past 6.5! Just curious to hear what experiences you've had with this amp since there are only 600 in the US it's hard to find someone to discuss it with

I love this amp except I get a low frequency bass buzz when I hit a low "A" note or lower on the low "E" string when cranked past 5. Even with the bass turned all the way down. Every other note is fine. I don't like the overdrive mode when turned past 4 either, but the clean and cranked is fine. I bought the white extention cab also. I cranked down the speaker and every bolt. Fender even replaced the Celestion Vintage 30. Still buzzzzzzz........My Twin Reverb doesn't buzz. I don't know if the speaker just can't handle the lower frequencies this amp puts out? The plain black HRD at the Guitar Center don't buzz. Fender even replaced the cab and the reverb tank. Crank your's up and let me know. I play an American Strat with Hot noiseless pickups. Put the Strat in the neck pickup position and crank it past 5.............let me know.

AMP BUZZZZZZZZZ...
This seems to be a never ending battle, however worth it since i love the sound of this amp/speaker, i do get alot of buzz out right at the moments you were mentioning, i've also blown the first preamp tube two or three times now (that was the ringing i was hearing on a previous post). Did you ever end up changing your preamp tubes? I believe i remember you changed a power tube??...how did you like that? Does the extenstion cab buzz? Let me know what you've seen/been through with this amp since the last post

Strat Rob...........I bought Eurotubes (JJ's) 6V6 Blues#2 option. By replacing the 6L6 power tubes, the amp went from 40 watts to around 30 watts. It also lowered the BASS responce and the amp no longer buzzes. The exension cab buzzed also....even when the main speaked was unplugged and ONLY the extension cab used. I found that the 6L6's put out way too much bass responce for the Celestion in this application. The JJ 6V6's sound WAY better than the 6L6's, in my opinion, especially with the celestion speaker. The kit also includes new pre-amp tubes which have less drive, BUT sound better. The MORE DRIVE still isn't the Marshall type overdrive I was looking for, so I am open to anyone's opinion of the best distortion pedal. I am waiting for the Vox Satchurator to come out this month before I buy something. As far as speaker break-in.....I just ran my Boss rc-50 loop pedal through it for about an hour and also play through it. END RESULT??????........All things smoothed out and the amp sounds AWESOME! I play an American strat w/hot noiseless pups. Clean sounds good until around 4. Also with the DRIVE kicked in and set at 4 1/2 and the MASTER volume set to 4 1/2, I get a sweet bluesy/Hendrix type of overdrive. But I will need a distortion pedal to get the Marshall type sound. The MORE DRIVE kicked in still sounds TOO compressed. I now love my HOT ROD DELUXE- WHITE LIGHTNING!!!!!!!
