Dog chewed power cord in two. Need to put ground replacement plug on it just want to make sure which wire is which (black-hot, white neutral, green ground). I read about the capacitor charge, I thought about opening it to just replace the power cord. Not a good idea?

If you know how to solder i would just get a new cord and solder it in...and be very careful not to touch anything or short two points...you are correct on your assumptions...black is hot, neutral is white and ground is green. See if you can find a replacement cord and if you can solder then great! If not ehhh might need a Tech

That charge can HURT if you just unplug it and start poking around...let it sit a couple of days and you should be fine. If you have a multimeter you can see how charged they are before you begin as well or you could discharge them yourself to the chassis. Just some ideas.

Caps can hold a charge for more than a couple days. Be careful. What kind of amp. Tube or Solid State. Some power cords in modern amps have connectors.

I was referring to an older style amp in which the caps are failing...if its a new amp and are afraid getting shocked id leave it alone...some of those caps can have up to 500V (if its tube).

If you do it just be very...very careful...
