I just got a Super Deluxe and man, I LOVE the tone. I had bought a HD 300 just for recording with and tried using it as a front end to the Super Deluxe's clean channel. NOT bad but, the SD's tone and responsiveness is really much better without that thing in the chain at all. I also tried using the HD 300 in the effects loop in the "effects only" mode and am still not that wowed by what I am hearing. Is anybody using these two units together? If not then any suggestions on which delay or vibrato pedals work well with the Deluxe? Do you use the effects loop or do you just run them in a chain? I like the Deluxe's Drive channel...with my Tele it works perfectly for the spacey Alt Country band I play with...I would like to keep using it! There are a couple of songs I play that have some really echo-ey vibrato stuff that sounded great using a Mustang III and now I am really wanting to apply a chain similar to the Movie Tremolux or Johhny Marr Tremolo settings (found on the MIII) on my wonderful new amp!

Actually I typed this in a hurry this morning. It's the Hot Rod Deluxe NOT the Super Deluxe. My bad.

 In that case, congrats on the new amp. :) I use a HRDlx I and a POD XT. The POD sounds better up front than in the loop IMO, but it does add a little hiss and takes just a little clarity from the amps sound, as many effects can do. Usually though, when using the effects/models of the POD the loss and hiss aren't noticeable.

For something different, plug the guitar into the input of the POD, and plug the output of the POD directly into the "Power Amp In" on the amp. When plugged into the "Power Amp In", the volume and tone controls and preamp section on the amp are bypassed, and you are only using the output section of the amp, so all volume and tone control comes from the POD. Start with the volume of the POD set low to avoid loud squeal, and tweak the POD to the amp model and/or effects to get your sound. The POD amp models sound more realistic when used this way.

Thanks for the advice...funny I used this same setup with my last rig and I was using a crappy digitech RP 100 thru the Power Amp in and had good results with a Genz Benz head. Dunno why I hadn't tried it this time. My only concern with that is really liking the way the clean and drive channels sound and well...I just bypassed them both if I go this route. I am betting the results are worth it tho.

Oh an update....took the advice...yes the results are night and day when using the power amp input as opposed to the previously mentioned methods....VERY do-able! Thanks man...you saved me about 500 bucks...was about to go shopping for a uni-vibe clone and some kind of simulated tape echo! Won't have to do that for a while.

Good point. I got the right combination of tubes to suit my taste in the HRDlx, and the drive channel sounds sweet as is, without effects, and of course the clean channel still sounds just as great as ever. Now I don't use the POD nearly as much as I have in the past. I prefer just having a guitar and amp with no pedals necessary, when possible. Most of the time, I use the Preamp Out on the HRDlx into the POD just for the tuner, so that the POD isn't in the signal path.

I had my reservations at first but really, the HD 300 sounds just awesome in conjunction with the Deluxe. They bragged about it all over the place on the Line 6 website and I had some really good luck recording direct with it but it frankly sounded flat the 2 ways I had tried to run the Pod previously. Using the Power Amp In sounds pretty freakin awesome and just as responsive as using the pre-amp section of the Hot Rod. I never was much of a purist to begin with so, for now I am not too bugged about it. Thanks again for the advice!
