Looking for that Robben Ford tone in smaller amp than my Super Reverb. The VL is 2x10 and lighter.
My SRRI is used but clean...his VL Cust Rev is new in the box.
Would you do that trade straight up?

Never played VCR, but I have played a Super. From what I've read here on the forum, keep the Super. Unless weight and wattage is a factor. Personally, I wouldn't trade. But only because I like Super more, just going by from what I read here.

Hi jbear,

If you can swing it, try putting a zendrive if front of that SR. That OD pedal was built to try to capture Robben's tone!

Thanks for the response. I currently use a Barber Small Fry...does the same thing. Also a Sonic Fusion pedal, more transparent than the Barber and Zen, but very sweet. You need to get the volume up to get the sweetness out of the SF pedal, but the Barber will do it at low levels. I do love the SR (although I never use the vibrato); it's the size and weight that make it a bit problematic for me. Thirty five+ years of hockey injuries are starting to get in the way of lugging it around. It's awesome if I don't have to move it. Wheels may be the interim solution.

Okay...not one person from any forum thinks this is a good idea. I think I'll take a step back and play...just play. I made it so far...if I need to add a smaller amp...I'll just add one. Actually I have a really cool Carvin Vintage 33, which is very tone-full. It runs 84's rather than 6L6's but...still sweet over all and much lighter.
Thanks for bringing me back to Earth.

Think "Deluxe Reverb Re-issue".

abso-f'n-tutly...take it from someone who bought a Deville 4x10 looking for the ol' '68 SR sound I once had, only to find nirvana once again in the DRRI.

I've never played a VCR that was quiet. Too much noise for my taste. They shouldn't have customized it.

A straight re-issue with a PCB ala the other blackface RI's but without the gimmicks would've been a best-seller.

I had an original 65 BF Vibrolux Reverb and it was a fine sounding, quiet and reliable amp. If it didn't get stolen, I'd still have it today. The VCR sounds nothing like the original.

Is it true that the VL Custom Rev has Blackface circuitry?
