Finally sat down in front of my home computer last night and watched some youtube videos on biasing (work computer does not let us watch streaming video). There are a couple of videos about HRD's. The BDRI should just like it, right? If so, it's so simple, even a caveman can do! Watched another video about a microphonic preamp tube. My amp is making the same sound. If a picture says a thousand words, then a video must say a million words. I'm more of a visual person, if I see someone do something once (or maybe twice), then I can do it then. Now if there were more videos on modding the BDRI, then this would be a piece of cake!

Blue Deluxe is a son of Hot Rod series. The bias is as Hot Rod Deluxe.

My favorite sites for BDRI/HRD and general amp mods and service:

http://www.amptone.com/index.html

http://www.markhansen.dk/Subarticles/Fe ... xemod.html (If you are really ambitious)

Remember, regardless of whether you measure at the Fender test point across the one ohm resistor or use a bias probe to measure cathode current, you MUST measure plate voltage to calculate the percentage of maximum plate dissipation. Using something like this with a DVM is the fastest and safest way to do so:

Have fun and don't stick your fingers where they don't belong. :D

Thanks for all the links, bluesky636! That'll keep me busy for a while. That pretty much sums up this thread, but I'll keep ya'll posted on the mods.

One more quick question, can I benefit from getting tubes that have gold pins instead of the regular pins? Trying to get the best bang for the buck ya know. And is it better, or needed, to get them with matched triodes?

Don't waste money on gold pins (Unless you've got extra money to waste. In which case, send it to me. ). They really add no value to guitar amps. Maybe if the tube sockets were gold plated and you were operating in a corrosive environment .....

The power tubes need to be matched to each other. The phase inverter should be balanced (though some may disagree with that). None of the other tubes require any sort of matching or balancing.

No extra money here, but thanks for offer.

Finally found the bad tube, it was V1. So, right now, it has a JJ 12AX7 in it, until I can order that NOS. $40 doesn't seem to bad, especially since the other preamp tubes are $20 or below. Will probably be getting the NOS first, after the holidays, then move the JJ to V2, then get the PI and power tubes last. AND THEN, get the replacement tube I stole from the Peavey, or maybe just put the GT's in there instead. :D

I just ordered 3 tubes from KCA. Got the 12AY7 for V1, a new JJ 12AX7 for V2, and a 12AT7 for V3. Can't wait to here what they sound like.

A 12AY7 in V1 and 12AT7 in V3 will cut the overall gain considerably. I tried that combination and you really had to turn the volume knob up to get any decent sound out of it. 12AY7/12AX7/12AX7 or 5751/12AX7/12AT7 have about the same overall gain and work much better in my opinion.

I'm gonna order me a 5751 later, just so I'll have some different combinations to try. Plus I'll still have 2 of the factory 12ax7's to use also.
