Long story short, I swapped some tubes in another amp I had out of necessity for the power tubes and out of curiosity for the preamp tubes, and I was very suprised at how much difference the tubes made in the sound. So of course, I started thinking ...

Has anyone swapped out the preamp and power tubes in your Champion 600, and if so, what combination did you like the best?

Thanks in advance. 8)

Today in my BDLx I've got 2 mesa SPAX7-A in V1 and V2 and a JJ ECC83 balanced in V3 (PI), 6L6s are origin sovteck, that sound great. 8)

I tried both JJ and EH output tubes in the C600, and actually preferred the stock Chinese output tube in this amp for the warm muddy sound. :o

When I first got my Champ600 I thought it sounded a bit muddy. I swapped the Power tube for a JJ and the improvement to the sound was amazing. It really brightened it up. I then changed the Pre-amp tube for an EH but noticed no difference.

I put Sovtek 5751 into two Champion RI 600 input stages and RCA clear class 6V6GTA power tubes. Along with Weber 6-incn ceramic speaker.

Pretty nice combination. The 5751 lower gain allows you to crank a amp a bit higher and get more harmonics outta the power tubes. That 5751 is pretty quiet and ruggedly built. Going to try a TAD 6V6GT-STR in next Champ RI 600 that floats into the bench.

FWIW: My 1948 "real" Champion 600:
