I cut the factory seal on the box myself, at the retailers(which had a torn off shipping label beside the standard label) and haven't asked this yet because i'm sure it sounds dumb, but why would there be 2xpaper label GT12ax7s, and 1xpainted label 12ax7GT(that wasn't even all the way into the socket)?
1 box of tubes(at the factory) empty out & next box was labeled different?
refurb?

what say y'all??

Don't sweat it. Preamp tubes don't need to be matched, only power tubes. The fact that you have two 12AX7s of one kind and one of a second kind is totally irrelevant. All three could be different and it wouldn't matter. The only thing that needs to be matched in a preamp tube are the two halves of the phase inverter and that is just one tube. The one tube probably came loose in shipping. It's always good to make sure all the tubes are properly seated when you get a new tube amp.

Different brand and/ or unmatched preamp tubes is the best of both world. Each one have is own quality and together they work fine

I agree, forget what the tubes look like. How does it sound? That's all that matters.

The paper labels replaced the printed labels for GTs, but there are still plenty of new tubes out there with the printed labels that work just fine. As for the shipping ruffians, they can cause many false assumptions of poor tube quality as they often beat up the amps pretty well when shipped, causing many tube failures in brand-new amps.

+1

Even "back in the day" during the Fullerton era, amps were tubed at the factory with whatever happened to be on hand. Thus, an olio of bottles was often the rule rather than the exception. The only tubes that were always "matched" as far as brand were the power tubes (excepting the class-A single-ended models such as the Champ and Vibro Champ).

uhhhh, yeah, i've been mixing preamp tubes for years now...
and I did check it out & notice the mismatch(and even seat the loose tube  )before I ever fired it up.
I just didn't mention it here yet because I knew it would sound dumb.(and I was right)

I was just wondering if it may have been a factory furb, 'cause I paid full price for it, and would go chernobyl if I got hooked by GC.
can you say $100 gift card folks?

anyhow, no foul either way, it sounds great & i'm fixing to desecrate it

It wouldn't be the first time that a GC has pulled a fast one.

:x
