Why don't you do something useful like start your own thread about how wonderful your Pro Jr is and butt out of mine. I'm sure everyone will find it fascinating.

Sorry, I just noticed you are trying to get a business going. I meant no harm. I wish you the very best of success.

Bill,

Looking at the schematic, the C600 appears to have a blackface tone stack (with fixed values), which is really stupid for a replica but since it is a "Vintage Modified" I guess the rules go out the window.

I read someplace that someone installed a micro switch so that he could remove the tone stack from the circuit whenever he wanted. Said that the volume really came up with the stack removed and tone improved. (replacement of the grill cloth a must also.)

If that was you, then I guess I missed that page of the build. If it wasn't, did you try removing the tone stack? And if so, what is your opinion of the "natural" tone.

I haven't found a schematic for the '49 - '53 champion 600 to compare it with.

Page 1, first post describes tone stack removal.

Couldn't see the forest for the trees.

Dang! I went to ampwares and it said No Schematic. But there it is.

Thanks Bill.

It's listed under the C800. They were the same except for the box and speaker.

Well, I've had this one for a year and a half, it's about time I put some wheat or oxblood grill cloth on this thing. :)
I was surprised, I could plug in the Jaguar (high gain input) and actually get some overdrive even with the restrictive 1 Meg volume and tone controls of the Jag. Obviously, the Strat sounds even better. Never really been happy with the sound of the LP through it (60's tribute Epi.) Call it Brand Loyalty or something.

But really, except for the cheap Chinese tubes and the rug in front of the speaker, it does have some pretty darned good tone out of the box. After the tubes and grill cloth, I will be changing the speaker. This amp actually gets more use than anything else (and the neighbors thank me for that.)

How big a piece of grill cloth will it require, Art?

I've got an odd remnant of oxblood rolled up in the man-cave.

Amp is 12"W x 11" H. So around 13x13 or 14x14 should cover with room to spare. I'd hate to buy 36x36 and have all that leftover. I'd be too tempted to build something. Darn! Fender is redoing the site again. The Champ 600 disappeared from Fender's site again. Glad I pick mine up back in 2011.

Have you found a decent schematic editor with a Tube library? Windows or Linux. KiCad is good but no decent tube library...

You know, I have one of those original Fender Champion 600. And not only does it lack the tone stack, but has a 6SJ7 pentode input tube. I have yet to play ANY RI C600 stock or modded with the crazy brown, creamy OD tone of that original one.

Has any one tried using a 9-pin pentode input mod, for the 12AX7, in the RI? Or maybe drop the gain a bit, by using a 12AY7? I bet if you drop the plate voltages to early Bassman tweed (5E6-A) values (on that unique 12AY7 input stage). And ran a shared 820-ohm cathode bias resistor with 250mfd/100VDC bypass cap) --- you'd start to get close.

Sorry Bluesky, if you already broached this subject.

Have you tried "Spice"? I use LT Spice IV, and found several tubes to add to the library, albeit from various sources. You can make your own models of virtually any component via the instructions, but I find it easier to locate existing models and copy them to my library.

Just a couple of sites to get you started. It can be complicated and time consuming to make your own tube models, for me at least.

There is discussion of various preamp tubes, gain mods, and power supply mods that I used scatteed throughout the thread.
