My 3 month old Princeton Reissue was back to a service center last month because of a bad speaker plug. That was fixed under warranty and everything was going pretty well until last night when I dug out the 2 button foot switch that came with the amp.

The left button is marked "Vib" and the right one is labeled "Rev". As it turns out, the one marked Vib serves to turn total output either on or off and the right one has no effect on Reverb.

I don't know if this amp is snake bit or what but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has experience with this amp and the foot switch.

About two years ago a bad batch of footswitches for the re-issue blackfaces started showing up. However, none of them had the particular symptoms as you describe. If the reverb and trem in your amp otherwise operates correctly without it then you've definitely got a bad footswitch. Ask your dealer to repair or replace it.

Arjay...

Thanks for the reply. The Reverb and Trem work fine without the foot switch. There don't appear to be any obvious problems with the connectors within the foot switch; all joints look good. I guess it's possible that the joints were soldered nicely, but with the wrong wiring diagram.

Given the problem I had with the speaker plug, I had considered that the switch plug might be bad, too, but it is the higher quality metal plug that the Fender tech used to swap out my faulty plastic speaker plug. Haven't taken it apart.

No dealer involved; Fender sent me the amp as a replacement for a mandolin refinish that they couldn't complete. I have an email in to customer service to see where to go from here.

Thanks again.

Try to borrow a known good footswitch and test it with your amp. The odds are good that the issue lies with a bad plug, cable, or the switch assembly itself.
