use a piece of burch plywood and cut it to fit a bdri amp. install 2-10 inch alnico speakers(of my choosing). the speakers would be 25 watt a piece and 4 ohm. wired in series. the goal is something of a twin, oviously.

Without having a DR on hand I can only guess if there's enough room and my guess is no, there's prolly not enough room. Liked I say, that's a guess. I could be wrong. If Arjay comes around he'll prolly have a better idea. Sounds like a cool project though. Just so you know there are makers of custom cabinets out there who could very likely make you a new cabinet to perfectly fit your DR chassis and 2 10s.

Here's one that might fit your goal.

Such a conversion *may* work but only if the speakers are carefully selected -- it the magnets are too large there may be clearance problems with the amp's trannies.

Remove your current 12-inch speaker and the amp's chassis, then lay the cabinet face down to ascertain whether there is sufficient space. If this is to work at all the ten-inch speakers will likely need to be staggered in order to fit.

Do this before anything else -- that way you're not out any money if it looks to be a bust.

yeh, i plan to try the speakers angled (like a tweed twin set up) and sence the current speaker is an 8 ohm, running 4 ohm in serries and at 25 watt rated (the current speaker is rated at 50 watts) they should do fine. i took some measurements and the two ten inch speakers will work as long as i put one in the upper corner near the power tubes and one in the corner below the pre amp tubes. hopefully this mod will give the amp a little brighter sound and add that slight swirl in the sound that the twins have. maybe pull a little of that famous "thud" in the low end these amps are known for. for reference i have a jensen p12n in it now.it sounds great. i'm just looking for a different sound and feel. because i can. i like options.

You might try a pair of Eminence Copperheads or Ragin' Cajuns -- they sound pretty good as replacements in a Custom Vibrolux Reverb. Order them as 16-ohm drivers and wire them in parallel.

i'll give those speakers some thought. a couple of questions, why 16 ohm wired in paralell? i know that will be 8ohm. does it produce a different sound than 4ohm in series? if i'm not mistaken fender wires the alnicos in the '57 twin 4ohm in series.

The Blues Deluxe and Hot Rod Deluxe amps need an 8-ohm load for optimum operating efficiency. A 4-ohm load may be used, but only by using both the primary and extension speaker jacks simultaneously OR inserting a dummy plug into the primary and wiring to only the extension jack.

This has been done and is apparently quite easy:

I considered doing it myself but have no woodworking skills beyond a hammer, nails, and hand saw.

thanks for the reassuring article bluesky636. i'm glad to see that i can do this mod. so either 2 4ohm wired in series or 2 16ohm wired parallel will work. thanks guys you have helped tremendously. now to get the speakers and the wood.

With some patience and common sense, you can do anything.

You've never seen the damage I can do with a hammer and nail ..... to myself or others. Now, give me a screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and your car and I can take it apart and put it back together again with no parts left over.
