I have had the same problem as some other users have had (see below) with my Deluxe VM -- making random interference noise, popping, crackling sounds -- doesn't seem to matter what outlet it is plugged into or whether the effects are on or off, in fact removing the guitar cable from the amp will not even stop it. Happened first on a paying gig and was very embarassing...My local repair shop cannot duplicate it but I will have to take it in again because it happens all the time.

I really love the sound of this amp and was heartbroken when all the defects starting happening. Has anyone else had this same problem with a Deluxe VM or Bandmaster VM?
Any clues as to a fix?

Previous post:
I have my Deluxe VM for about 4 monts and was happy with it, but recently it started to randomly make a noise when I stop playing. It sounds like electrical interferance. It is irregular and kind of scratchy...
It makes this kind of noice even when I disconect the guitar cable and shut off all the effects. Tubes are Sovtech
Any advice what this could be ? I know it's still under warranty but I'm playing everyday and would hate to be without it.

Probably just a tube. I'd start looking at the preamp tubes. The 12AX7's. I believe there's only 2 and two 6L6 power tubes. Try tapping them one at a time with the eraser end of a pencil while the amps on. If it's a tube, the offender should show up. If it does, try removing it and plugging it back in to be sure it's seated properly in the socket. If that's not it, it could be the DSP effects going wonky.

Probably a bad solder on power supply to tubes, or loose connexions, I don't know how this amp is built.

Hi kipraymond, I just recently put in a full set of JJs in my DRRi. While I was biasing the power tubes, one of them popped & flahed at me, but it kept working, so i left it in. A few days later I started getting those exact symptoms. It sounded exactly like AM radio static in a thunderstorm. Obviously I suspected that tube. Fortunately I ordered a matched 4 set of power tubes, so all I had to do was swap that tube out. Now it sounds great. So yea, definitely check the tubes. cheers
