Mesa/Boogie has come out with thier new Mini Rectifier Twenty Five (Dual Rec's preamp into 4 x EL84's with an effects loop, Approx. 25 watts). What I want to do is put the Mesa head on top of my DRRI and use a Radial or Lehle amp switcher, and use use the DRRI's speaker for both. Can I just use a 1/4" Y-adaptor(splitter) to connect the head and DRRI to the speaker, or will I have to use another footswitch(cab switcher)? I am wanting to avoid having to stomp 2 switches to switch between Mesa and DRRI. Also, having this configuration allows me to run two vastly different amps in a minimalistic fashion. I'd have the sweet, beautiful clean tones of the DRRI and the tight gain of the Dual Rectifier just a stomp away, and through the same speaker. Add in the Fulltone Fulldrive and TS-9, and there's a huge range of authentic tonal options. Oh what fun!

I have never trusted amp switchers as the price for a malfunction could be catastrophic. In your scenario, I'd wire the Mesa to its own speaker enclosure.

Ok, thanks Arjay. That's what I'll do. I just thought it'd be cool to just be able to load in my DRRI with the small lunch box head on top of it and go. Fender clean to face melting recto

Pick up a small 1 x 12 cab from Avatar or Lopoline (or build one -- they're not that complex) and load it with something like a Celestion V30. That'll accomplish the mission without adding much to the overall load you have to pack.

Awesome tfunk! How's it sound? I've heard the demos on Mesa's website and a few others. I've decided to build a 2 x 12 cab using the same specs as the mesa recitfier cab. They use 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood with rabbet joints, and 1/2" dado joined baffle boards with a separate grill. I'm just gonna use their dimensions and make my own 2x12 horizontal rectifier cab.

A suggestion, Hollis. A vertically-oriented cab will project better and it'll put the amp head closer to eye level to facilitate knob-tweaking.
