Thanks guys for the nice comments.

Call me crazy but I don't have any plans to modify the amp; I like it the way it is. I subscribe to the motto `If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Well said! You're not crazy for appreciating the amp as it's meant to be. You obviously like it the way it is or you wouldn't have bought it...

Jam on~

There's thousands of people who don't mod the DRRI or the original DR....they're great amps to begin with. :)

I wouldn't consider tweaking a tube array or swapping a speaker to be a "mod"......merely fine-tuning an already legendary platform.

I do that with all my amps....to me "mods" are a change that alter the design somewhat.

I tweak, re-tweak, and re-tweak 'til I find that tone that puts a smile on my face and makes me want to keep playing...

That's because you're a die-hard tone junkie, CB!

For me I can't see spending $1000 for an amp and as soon as I get it I break the warranty by getting it modded and then spend $100's of dollars to upgrade it. If the amp does not sound good to me when I'm purchasing it then I won't by it I'll keep looking until I find one I do like. There are other manufacurers of deluxe reverb clones that already include the mods and upgrades mentioned in this and other threads right out of the box, thus keeping the warranty intact. There are many star professional musicians who use fender blackface amps out of the box and they sound just fine. Most of them use rented equipment when they are on the road. I doubt many on this forum are at the level I'm talking about. For me I am going to spend my time learning how to play my instrument instead of modifying it.

That's good as you'll save lot's of time and money.

But for many, the journey is as exciting as the destination (if nor more so) and just because we tweak and adjust, it doesn't mean don't also play.

In fact, tweaking inherently obliges more playing time!

Each to their own, and neither approach is correct/incorrect.

Exactly! All that testing to reach sonic nirvana and then the satisfaction you get out of a well tweaked amp makes you wanna play more and more! 8)

Just WTF are you talking about?

I take my tone as seriously as any Grammy winner.

So much so in fact that I find very little in the way of new gear in a GC that's worthy of even wasting my time listening to a demo. I'd rather build my own gear.

What he's trying to say is that we all suck and are not the same level as other professionals that really care about tone, such as this pro:

Here is what I am trying to say. There are musicians who earn upwards of $500,000 per year using stock amps. I just read an article about Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi talking about using thier stock Fender Super Reverb Reissues. Since I don't believe most of us on this forum are at the same level as a Derek Trucks, Robert Cray or Stevie Ray Vaughn I don't believe that modding a DRRI is something we have to do. It is fine if you wish to make changes to your amp but I think it is bad advise to tell someone who just purchased an amp the they have to do the Fritz or any other mod thus voiding thier warranty. The amp sounds great as is. The mods may give it a slight improvement but they are not required.

Stick a fork in me as well.

I'll just leave the "gentleman" with this......there wouldn't even be a muthafuggin' company named Fender if some radio and TV repairman hadn't decided to do a bit of "tinkering".
