First of all, I bought a slightly used but in imaculate condition DRRI (no mods) in April. However, it wasn't until last night that I had a chance to play it in a band rehearsal (with my Les Paul). The tone was fantastic. Even the drummer and bass player remarked on how good it sounded. They also appreciated the fact that I just plug in and play with no messing around with pedals. We played Beatles, Stones, Wilburys, Elvis, Queen and an assortment of Blues and classic R & B. The amp handled everything with just an occasional change of pickup selection and a twist of the guitar volume control.

Best part of it all was that I was invited back for the next rehearsal.

Now I know I bought the right amplifier. We DRRI owners are a lucky bunch :D

OK - thanks for the DRRI endorsement: we all know where you are and its a great place to be!

Now get busy modding and you'll enjoy it a whole lot more.

My DRRI eats innocent bystanders for lunch and s*&ts them out through the extension speaker socket 24-hours later!

The DRRI is truly outstanding. I'll never get rid of mine. Mine has the Fritz mod, which allows reverb and vibrato on the normal channel.

+1

The mod also puts both channels "in phase" with one another to permit jumpering or channel-switching via an A/B/Y unit.

Rawk on, Hollis!

Congrats! Loving mine, too. It's only three months old and the sound gets better every time I turn it on.

Rock on...

Thanks guys for the nice comments.

Call me crazy but I don't have any plans to modify the amp; I like it the way it is. I subscribe to the motto `If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Wish I had the same results as you guys. I've had 2 of them and neither took distortion pedals that I use well. The old bees in the jar sound. Too bad, because I liked the size and tone. I use an evil twin now, which works great for me.

Gilbo,

I hear what you say, but its kinda like a woman, you can be satisfied with what you've got until you try a hotter one!

Cool thing is, unlike a woman, you can usually go back to your first DRRI without hassle or the need for a lawyer!

I know what you mean, Feed. We've all spent time & money chasing after that tone that's in our heads.

I knew the amp sounding great when I got it but when my new bandmates commented on how great it sounded, well, it was a no brainer for me...leave it stock and enjoy!

Last night after work I went home and played it just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. The tone is still there.

Personally, I like the two separate channels. I guess I'm just weird that way LOL!

The Fritz Mod allows the use of both those channels simultaneously via patch cables or an A/B/Y switch. No change occurs to the amp's tone.

Gilbo,

OK, mods are cool, but THE one upgrade you MUST make to you DRRI is to fit a Celestion Gold replacement speaker.

£200 well spent in my book - it literally transformed the sound providing a stiffer, more resilient bass end and strong mid-upper without that zing!

Go on, you know you want to.

The Celestion Gold is a very fine speaker but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. I've installed a variety of aftermarket drivers in many DRRI's, with the choice based on the client's playing style and personal music preferences. Most selections were a home run with the batter's first swing but there were a couple of times we had to switch to "plan B" when the first choice didn't work out. The Gold may very well the sonic holy grail for some but there are other fine speakers available as well -- and not all of them are "new".
