Hello,

Newbie here. First post. I apologize if this has been covered, but I searched and did not find an answer.

I noticed new for 2008, Fender is offering a line of 1x12 extension cabinets for the Hot Rod amp. The advertisement clearly says it fits neatly under a Blues Deluxe. As far as I know, the Blues Deluxe does not come with an external speaker jack, at least it is not in the specs like the Hot Rod.

My question is, how does the extension cabinet connect if there is no external jack. I find it hard to believe anyone would by the extension cabinet because it "fits neatly", but cannot be connected. Is this possibly a misprint by Fender, or does the Blues Deluxe have an external speaker jack that I just did not know about.

Thanks,
Jim

The Blues Deluxe "Reissue," which we've built for the last few years, has a second speaker output jack on the underside of the chassis. This works the same as the Hot Rod Deluxe, where it switches the amp's output to 4 Ohms when you use the second speaker output jack.

The Blues Deluxe amp from 1994-1996 did not have the external speaker jack. You could probably try a Y-connector, and connect the internal speaker and the extension speaker, but it would create a mismatch (8 Ohm amp into 4 Ohm load), more distortion, and more heat.

Hope this helps.

thanks,
Shane

Thanks Shane!

I figured there had to be a good explanation.

To Fender staff: If I want to use an extension speaker with this amp what ohms should it be rated at? The stock speaker is 8 ohms I believe but if plugging in another speaker automatically reduces the ohms to 4 what will that do with the stock speaker? I'm just curious as I have an 8 ohm speaker cabinet in my basement I have never used and thought: why not? Can I safely use both 8 ohm speakers at the same time?

Your amp is designed to power an 8-ohm extension cabinet in addition to the 8-ohm internal speaker.

This makes for both a good sounding and good looking rig IMO. Here's mine:

Sorry to input on such an old post, but I am trying to figure out how to add the extension speaker output to my 95 Blues Deluxe. I have the Switchcraft 13A jack which I believe is the correct part needed for the extension jack. I can tell where everything is coming and going from (I think) from the schematics when looking at the circuit board. My problem is in translating which tabs are which on the physical jack. I have no idea what point on the schematic is representative on the jack. For example, I see the green wire from the output transformer is the 8 ohm tap, and the green/yellow wire is the 4 ohm tap (the color coding on the USA one is the same). They both attach to the ext jack, I just don't understand which tab. Anyone have any good quality pictures or links, or any way to diagram it out for me? Thanks.
