I'm in 10th grade. I'm an SGA member and I'm petitioning to allow open mic performances at lunch and auditioned performances at football games and pep rallies.

This must be a first. We often see posts from high schoolers who claim that their parents are buying them a Masterbuilt guitar for graduation. In this case we have a high schooler who cannot afford to buy a roll of electrical tape.

Look in the sofa cushions at home or under the seats of your parent's car. I'll bet you find more than enough coin there to buy two rolls of electrical tape.

I'm poor actually. I live with my grandma and got my first guitar in a weird way. Most people can't top it lol. If you want more on my story, reply.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry, so I think I will just say "buh-bye".

Best of luck with that, sounds like a worthy goal.

When I was in HS the only occasions we had to play for the school were at the annual fall and spring class talent show competitions. Amazingly, we actually won a couple of times.

Rawk on!

I just expressed the idea and it was well received. But some said not for the pep rallies because those focus on the football team, apparently. But don't see how allowing students to open up with Blitzkrieg Bop or Pinhead would reduce the pep. It's only 2 minutes and 30 seconds out of an hour event. And since I'm SGA I get to set up the events, so I can pull bandmates out of class and set up on the field. I just don't get why some people want to cut music out of schools.

I always believed that music, art, and even home-ec and shop class should be integral parts of the educational curriculum. Many youngsters find their path in life by the affinity they develop for these various disciplines. JMOOC.

I miss woodshop. I took it 2 years in a row in middleschool. As for guitar classes, I was never able to get in to one, so I had to teach myself.

I'm still "teaching myself" after 45 years of playing.

Hang in there, kiddo.

My mom is friends with a couple people who are retired. One is a bassist from a blues group and he gives me all of these tips. One of the other guys is her friend who started playing in highschool and has been playing for about 25 years now. He went to this guitar college and got classically trained. Both are insanely cool and give me tons of pointers and are very receptive to questions.
