As you can see, there was a break in the wire to one of the speakers. It was repaired very poorly. I was just wondering if it's safe to use, or if I should just get a new wire completely. How much would a job like this run me from the average tech, or how easy is this to do myself? Other than the wire, this is a very clean cab. For being as old as it is and having only a few rips in the tolex, at the price of free, I absolutely love it.

If you own a soldering iron and have an idea how to use it you can easily rewire the cabinet yourself. Just go slowly ahead and replace the wires one at a time. You should be able to get a good wire at your local guitar shop. Good luck.

It's just 1 wire. The rest are factory.

The photos are very blurry but what I THINK I see is two wires spliced together with no insulation covering the splice. Is that correct? If so, no, it is not excatly safe because the wire could touch metal and short out the amp output. If you paid a "repair tech" to do this, take it back and demand that it be done right. Or wrap some electrical tape around the splice. Your call.

It is 2 spliced. I didn't pay a tech, I got the amp for free from a neighbor and his son used it for gigging and touring for about 10 or so years, then quit the band and went to college.

If he does, maybe he can do a better job. But when I opened it up to get the second jack through, I found the Celestions and was even happier.

Well, either redo it yourself correctly or just wrap some electrical tape around the splices. Either way is easy.

Alright. I guess I'll get some tape and when I get my soldering iron, some wires.

Electrical tape is $2.50 for a 20 foot roll at Radio Shack. Sell some blood.

I was like 20c short. I won't use it regularly though, so I'll get tape when I have the money.
