If you go lugging this thing around, get the DRRI.
You haven't mentioned if you want a "clean" sounding amp or not. But if you wanted a TRRI to begin with, then I'd say 'yes' you want a "clean" sound.

Zowno,

You're in a cool spot with the open ended 18th Birthday gift options. Wow, I'm 37 now, but when I was 18 I didn't research amps, in fact I didn't really know what I wanted from an amp (in the longterm I mean)... Some of what I like now is very different than what I thought I liked then & some things are the same.

I must say, you are on the RIGHT track! If you go with any Blackface RI you will NEVER outgrow it's tone or it's usefulness. More likely, you'll grow to appreciate it more as time passes. Also as time passes you'll be glad you chose a "lighter" one so I'd go with the DRRI. It should cover any bases you need it to.

Based on what you wrote down that you're looking for in an amp, I think the Fender DRRI or something small from Peavey's Classic line would be good amps to try out.

If you go with the Twin Reverb, you'll have an awesome sounding but very HEAVY amp.

Have fun test driving those amps.

There is no point in you getting a twin reverb if youre only playing in your bedroom, and for the price of a twin reverb you can buy a nice smaller amp AND a new guitar.

The Twin Reverb is a fine amp but it is very heavy and too loud for all but the most demanding of professional applications. If you prefer the traditional blackface tone and envision playing out with a band or jamming with friends, the Deluxe Reverb is a much more versatile package. Many of us own and swear by the DR (truthfully, I own both a DR and a TR) and it's really a "go-to" amp that you'll never outgrow.

Good luck with your decision, HTH

+2 or an Egnater Tweaker 44  I owned a 100 watt 76 SF Twin for over 30 years my testicles and back both thanked me. It was way too loud for most venues I played, but was as clean and reliable as you can get. I haven't much experience with the Twin reissues though.

Mine's been as rock-solid as any Fender amp I've ever owned. But it's an older model from the early '90s, pre-dating FMIC's switch to RoHS-compliant solder.

Still mighty heavy though -- even more so since I replaced the OEM speakers with JBL K120's.

thanks heaps. sorry its taken so long to get back on -.- im definitely going to look at the Deluxe reverb now, and a couple of peaveys, and probably some engaters too. I can say now though, that it will probably end up being either the twin or deluxe. But who knows. thanks everyone for your advice :D

Go and pick up a twin. Do you want to lug something around that heavy? You won't always be young and strong. Bigger isn't always better!

I really can't stand people who are put off by the weight. If it's the sound you want, just get it. I honestly couldn't care less about the weight. If it gets too much I'll just buy a trolley or put wheels on it.

What's the opinion of the super reverb?

That was a bit harsh. You did ask for advice. But if that's the way you feel, then just go for one of the Behemoths in spite of us. I doubt that you'll be disappointed w/any of the reissues. If I had a choice between the Twin & the Super, I would just try both out & choose. I'd probably have to toss a coin. Both make me want to drool.

In that case, allow me to be the first name you put on your "ignore" list. I've been playing Twin Reverb amps for twice as long as you've been on this goddamm planet and I own more vintage Fender tube amps than you've got pairs of BVD's in your underwear drawer. Many members here have similar credentials.

You asked for some recommendations, pilgrim. We gave you some -- and highlighted the various aspects regarding ownership of these models. What you do with this advice (and your money) is of absolutely no import to us. But don't come back here cryin' the blues because you got tired of lugging an 80-lb amp back and forth from your bedroom to the garage.

Thanks Arj. And I did get a little hectic back there. I've been a live sound engineer for the last 2 years. I have a set of massive speakers and a subwoofer bigger than my kitchen, i do know how heavy gear can get :/ but i digress. Thanks for your advice everyone.

For about the same price of a Twin Reverb....

Nobody who owns one of these ever has a bad thing to say about it.

If you can get anything, get a Two Rock. just make sure if you look at the combo, it's atleast the studio pro 35. They are pricey, but gorgeous.
If two rocks are too much, (for most they are, atleast when you compare them to like-like models) the look at a deluxe reverb or princeton reverb. Both have gorgeous sparkly blackface cleans, at levels that can be easily kept under control for practice, recording and in the case of the deluxe, gigs with even a heavy handed drummer.
the problem with a twin, is odds are you'll never get it to sound the way its supposed to, you need to get it up around 5 for it to come alive, and odds are youll never have a reason to turn it past 1. Also, if you go the twin, make sure you invest in a chiropractor and new rear suspension on your car.

look at two-rocks. best clean sound out there

Look at the date of the last post, bro. I guess he bought an amp by now.
