Hi there, this is my first post of what will sure to be several.

My 18th birthday is coming up, and I can get virtually whatever I want. So I thought about it and settled on a Twin Reverb re-issue. I did some research and figured that if I'm going to get a guitar amp I don't want to get sick of it when I get better at guitar.

So my question is this, is it too much? I mean the TRRI is insane, but is it too insane for a beginner?

Why do you think the TRRI is the right amp for you?

If you can get virtually whatever you want i would recommend going to a big music shop and play everything they have to find out what tone you like

Then you need to find out how loud you need it to be able to play.

There is no point in you getting a twin reverb if youre only playing in your bedroom, and for the price of a twin reverb you can buy a nice smaller amp AND a new guitar.

IMO there is'nt an amp that is too insane for a beginner... If the beginner needs it.

+1

The Twin Reverb is a fine amp but it is very heavy and too loud for all but the most demanding of professional applications. If you prefer the traditional blackface tone and envision playing out with a band or jamming with friends, the Deluxe Reverb is a much more versatile package. Many of us own and swear by the DR (truthfully, I own both a DR and a TR) and it's really a "go-to" amp that you'll never outgrow.

Good luck with your decision, HTH

I figure because it has great cleans and is studio worthy. I'm starting a university course in sound engineering next year and I could probably use a really good amp to record with. Also I plan on starting a band soon and having a great gigging amp handy all the time would be great.

Make sure you spend some time playing the type of amp you think you want before you purchase an amp. If possible, play the exact amp you purchase.

Nope.

The Frontman is shinier. And it has all those fancy blinking lights.

I agree that the TRRI is a great amp, but there's smaller great studio amps out there as well. I also suggest having a look around before deciding. good luck

Thank you everyone. I think I will have to try out a whole bunch of amps first. So would you guys suggest trying out the following? Twin reverb, Deluxe reverb, frontman 212, princeton reverb. anything else?

I wouldn't waste five microseconds of my life on a Frontman 212.

The rest are worthy candidates for a credible stage or studio amp. You might also give the new Egnater line of gear a listen. They're well-built and offer quite a few useful features.

It has to be portable, and it would be nice if you could run it directly into your recording rig.

I'm thinking Blackstar HT-5

Cheers

I think the Twin is more suitable for live gigs in large venues. The DRRI & the PRRI are the better ones you mention here for studio use. The Frontman is solid state. I'm just assuming you're looking for a tube amp?? To me, Egnaters, & Peavey Classic series look interesting as well. This list isn't too long, & I'll bet you'll find one suitable for you. Who knows, maybe you'll still want the Twin in the end. Happy hunting.
