A quick question.
Would you think it better to get the
supersonic head and 4/12 cab or
the combo and get a 212 cab extension
or would the sound be similar?
The reason I ask is because
it would stretch me further financially to get the
4/12 cab and I could get the combo and then
add the 212 at a later date. I also wonder if
the sound may be fuller by having the combo and a 212
cab.

Thoughts anyone?

All things considered, I would get the head and 4x12 cab, easier to move, more sound. If the 2x12 cab is a typical 4 ohm cab, you would have a slight impedance mismatch when used with the 8 ohm speaker in the combo. The mismatch simply means that you will not get the full power out of the amp, but can be done safely. Still you would only have 3 speakers compared to the 4 in the 4x12 cab, so the 4x12 would give you quite a bit more sound. You could use the 2x12 cab and a dummy plug in the combo to maintain the impedance match, but then only 2 speakers working. Typically, the 4x12 will sound much fuller/louder than the 2x12.

From my understanding the 212
cab is designed specifically to work in conjuction
with the combo allowing for a total of 4 12s
wouldn't the Impedance be matched on the cab
it is in the supersonic line? would'nt the combo
with its 212s and the cab be effectively a head
and 4 12s given the circuitry is the same

Oh my fault, do you mean the Twin combo with 2x12s, and the 100 watt head? Are the two speakers in the SS Twin wired for 16 ohms or 4 ohms? And the 2x12 cab that you are referring to, is it 16 ohms or 4 ohms? The 2x12 cab "Super-Sonic™ 60 212 Enclosure", says it matches perfectly with the SS 60 combo (1x12), not the Twin combo.

When you connect a typical 2x12 cab (4 ohms) in parallel with the typical 2x12 amp speakers (4 ohm) you get a total of 2 ohms, whereas a 4x12 cab is 8 ohms. The difference is that the 4x12 cab speakers are in a series/parallel configuration, whereas the amp speakers and the 2x12 cab would all be in parallel.

You can do as you mentioned, Twin and 2x12 cab, and have a slight mismatch which is OK as long as the cab can handle the power from the combo, but it won't sound quite like the 100 watt head and 4x12 cab.

From what I can tell the ext jack and 2/12 cab
are wired for 8 ohms so when using the ext cab
it would be 4 ohms spread over 2/12 cabs in parallel
That would still have pretty good sound dispersal
right? I know it wouldn't be exctly the same

Of course even just the SS Twin by itself would be very, very loud, and adding an ext cab would give even more sound.

It would be unusual for a Fender 2x12 cab, or 2x12 amp to be 8 ohms. In order for either to be 8 ohms they would have to use 16 ohm speakers instead of the typical 8 ohm speakers. Can you share any info about this? How did you determine 8 ohms? :?:
