Hahahaha thanks man, my testicles thank you.

GREAT so now I gotta look at another amp? ;) I need to head to GC and try to play all of these, but really versatility is what I'm looking for. I want that John Mayer tone more than anything, but I also want that sexy rock n' roll tone.. The Rebel seems like a great fit, but if John uses the Hotrod, I'll check that out too.

My budget is fairly flexible, I'm willing to spend whatever it takes to make me happy... hopefully at somewhere close to < $1,000 :)

Regardless, I'll get that Keeley mod. That seems like a great pedal buy to add to my small collection.

EDIT: Why is everyone saying Rebel 20? Isn't the 30 the one with the Reverb and multiple channels? I feel like that's a better choice, does it have just as good of a clean tone?

If John Mayer reported on his blog that he had used a Blues Junior in the studio, I'm sure he was telling the truth, but I can be fairly certain that he used it sparingly and as an effect. He owns stacks of Two-Rocks, hand-made CS Deluxe 57's, and a couple of real Dumbles.... he's not going to prefer the boxy sound of a Blues Junior except as an effect, the same way David Lindlay plays those Teiscos. I mean, look at that list of amps at the link posted...

Tylercaster, the Rebel 30 sound quite a bit like the Rebel 20 to my ear, and the cleans are just as good, with even slightly more headroom. By all means, check it out too... it comes in a nice 1x12" combo dealio, too. I forgot about the lack of verb on the smaller Egnaters... I use a Line 6 M13 in the effects loop for all my time based effects and it slipped my mind.

Yeah, but looking at the list is the closest most people will ever even get to some of those amps. I have a BJ3 and I can nail John Mayer sounds with it (along with my pedals).

This isn't the ONLY way though, and I thing the rebel 30 is a great amp (my guitar teacher gigs with one). It would be pretty easy to find some great blues tones, AND have multiple channels (the downfall of the BJ3)

John does like the "dumble tone". In conjunction with whatever amp you end up choosing, you might consider the Wampler Ecstasy Overdrive pedal along side a couple of pedals that John uses as well.

The Ecstasy is said to be the closest thing to that "dumble" tone in a stompbox. I doubt if Mayer uses the Ecstasy because he owns & uses the real thing. Just a suggestion though, it might help you reach that sound your looking for.

John Mayer is one hell of a guitarist, songwriter, & tone connoisseur. You've made a good pick to be influenced by (musically anyways)...

Check out the Wampler Ecstasy here:
