As long as you are not eating fried chicken while handling the tubes, it is OK. If your hands are dry and clean, you won't leave anything damaging on the glass. HID lights are much more sensitive to fingerprints on the glass than amp tubes. It is fine to push the tubes towards their sockets a little to make sure that they are seated. You are probably right, visual inspection might be good enough. Either way. :)

Got my amp back yesterday and it is great again, both valves are lighting evenly and looked match.

I was a bit wooried as the box was bashed but he amp itself seemed ok, had a good night with it last night and very happy again.

Although the courier company said I was in a remote area and wasn't going to deliver it, when I checked it was in their depot 15mins away from my house (unbelievable), Lol they were more remote than me!!! I just went and picked it up!!

Hopefully no more problems and I can get back to playing and recording!!

That's cooler than a witch's .....well you know. Glad to hear about the reunion. 8)

Just curious as to what kind of tubes that you have, and are they the same type that you had before? Maybe GT EL84-R for the output tubes? And color/number rating on the label?

Definitely enjoy playing, but if you take a break and get a chance to peak in the back, let us know about the tubes and maybe an update like; "Still lovin' the BJr III" or.....

I think that you also owe us a pic or two.

Hi shimmilou, thanks, enjoying playing it again!

had a look at tubes, they are GT EL84-S, the old ones where GT EL84-R, need to look into what difference that would make!

Some pics as promised..a perfect couple if you ask me!!! Lol
Not sure how to attach them so have put them on my flickr page if it doesn't work

Here's the GT site on ratings:

http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/Rating.html

Personally, I use mil spec (OTK stamped) Reflector 6N14P-EV (important to get -EV or -ER) for EL84 amps. They are really tougher than run-of-mill EL84 (more like old US made 7189). You need to ferret out the bad ones. But, the good ones really last and last. Dark, powerful tone. Very nice with Tungsram ECC83 in the front end. As these are really powerful gain stage tubes.

Good choice BMW2002Ti, I've used the 7189s and they seem to be great, and a great match in the stock BJr.

indianabones,

You got an upgrade on the tubes, how cool is that? The -R are Russian made, while the -S are Slovakian (made in the JJ factory). IMO, the R are great, rugged tubes, suited for warm distortion, using pedals. The S are a bit more rich musically, and brighter, more harmonics when played clean.

Nice Strat too! Is that Olympic Pearl?

Yeah, that's pretty cool getting an upgrade, not often that happens! Don't think I will be replacing them in the near future as this will void warranty, think I'll see how I go with these, sounds pretty damn good!!! I read that the EL84-S where made in the JJ factory, but they have different labels than the JJ's

Yeah olympic pearl deluxe strat, I call her jessica!!!!

Cheers
