I figured this needed a new thread because the tech who checked out my Princeton under warranty discovered that the speaker wire that has a 1/4" plug on the amp end and two spades on the speaker end was out of spec on the amp end. It would not seat in either the internal or external speaker jack.

He had seen some of these before and it appears to reflect a bad run of plugs at Fender. So, if your amp suddenly decides to stop working, before you go out and start replacing tubes, check the plug and see if it seats firmly or stops with a slight springy push back. If it does the latter, you might want to get a new wire with a plug that is in specification.

BB, you know what this may mean? Fender doesn't make this type of hardware. They get it from contractors. And usually the same company makes the plugs, makes the jacks. USUALLY...

I never heard of a standard 1/4-inch jack not working with a standard 1/4-inch plug. Must be pretty funky stuff. Is the plug one of those enclosed plastic jobbies?

Thanks! For the info.

Sounds like another problem to add to the current pile of QA/QC issues......

Personally, I've always used the original-type Fender speaker wiring harness -- with the metal housing and the removable plastic "F" cap -- even on my re-issues. In forty-five years of owning and playing Fender amps, I've never had one fail.

Yes, it is one of the plastic molded plugs. We tried it in several guitar jacks and it did the same thing; went in and stopped short of seating. Had about 1/8" to 1/4" of springiness left to it. The tech is going to look at the jacks, too.

I must admit a bit of surprise to see this level of cost cutting with a component that is crucial to the signal chain.

Makes sense. My tech said he would replace the harness with one with a metal capped plug.

Thanks. It must be good. It is made in the same City when my pellet grill/smoker was made, and it's a keeper. :D

Just checked my SuperSonic 22 and it has the same speaker plug issue. Not seating tight. Tried another neutrik plug and it was tight, so it's the Fender plugs.
