My original preamp tubes must be dying because I keep losing volume/power...it comes and goes. I believe I need to replace the preamp tubes. Which 12AX7 tubes should I get? I was happy with the sound I got from the originals. I have no idea if the two 6L6 tubes are okay but thought I'd replace the preamp tubes first.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How many hours do you have on both the signal tubes = pre-amp/gain stage/EFX tubes (12AX7 & 12AT7) versus the power tubes? My experience is one goes through about twice as many (if not more) power tubes, than signal tubes.

Perhaps, pull each tube separately and use some contact cleaner on the socket and pins and reseat the tubes, one-by-one. This might help a funky contact that is causing the in-&-out effect. Worth a try, at least.

Thanks much...I'll give it a try though I've had the amp now for 17 years and never experienced anything like this. I just figured the tubes needed to be replaced. All the tubes are the same age (the originals).

Also a bit confused because I read (I know I can look at the tubes) that the amp uses 2 6L6s and 3 12AX7 tubes. I didn't know about the 12AT7.

Stock Blues Deluxe does not use a 12AT7. It uses a 12AX7 as the PI tube.
