I've had mine for about 10 months and have done no other mods than replacing some glass. May do a couple of the Fritz mods but in no rush.
I bought the Radial Engineering BigShot ABY Passive Switcher to use both channels with different pedals.

I'd check the bias on the output tubes first and if you like the sound, enjoy! If you don't like the sound, you'll find lots of posts here about which glass is best!

I LOVE my amp!

How are you liking that Big Shot ABY, Ty?

I love mine......best $75 I ever spent on a stompbox.

Congrats on the DRRI!!!

I went a step farther and had a 2x12 cabinet made for my DRRI.

I did the Fritz mod. I also went with 5751's instead of 12AX7's in V-1 and V-2

Nice looking cab there Chet!! Does that patch cord work well using both channels at once? I've been thinking of running both channels at once on my 57 CS Tweed Twin but not sure if or how I want to do it. Maybe a pedal like Arjay is talking about in above post.
Anyway looking good my friend!

Thank You!
The jumper works great! I may try a switch just to see which one I prefer most.

Thanks Chet!! I'm going to try both ways when I get a chance. The pedal offers more combinations and the ease of being foot operated.

Man, I wish the DRRI worked for me. It didn't take my effects very well. Was using a Jemini Steve Vai od/distortion box and it sounded terrible, but I loved the cleans. Sold it and got a Red Knob Twin which I actually like alot, except for the size and volume. The DRRI size would have been perfect. Probably picking up a used Blues Jr limited edt tweed this weekend.

I agree Arjay.
Great pedal for the bucks...it allows me to have two sets of effects into the DRRI.
One line with digital trem/reverb/delay/etc. effects (Digitech RP-250) and another line with my wah and/or distortion and/or boost going into the DR's effects input.
And having a tuner out on the A/B/Y box regardless of input picked, I can keep from sounding out of tune as well! Now the playing is another matter... :(

I also just became owner of a Marshall Class 5 and so I'm going to experiment in running both at the same time. May sound like crap but it gives me the luxury to find out. 8)

Plus the options of having two guitars into the same amp as well. Should I want to trade between the Strat or Tele.

Nice box and highly recommended.

Mods are very cool and certainly a legit thing for folks to do in the privacy of their own home!

I've pulled V2 from my DRRI for a thicker sound (I use the Normal Ch1.) and have also recently replaced the stock Jensen speaker with a Celestion Alnico Gold (see my other recent post) = awesome tightening of the lower register - this baby now growls at me when playing below the 5th fret on the E, A & D strings with none of the flub/flab/fart experienced before. The Gold is slightly brighter than I'd anticipated, but I'm still in single digits for break-in hours and expect it to mellow out some.

Couple of observations to make though:-

- be sure you understand what you are doing from both a technical and safety perspective + and also the implications of the 'reversibility' (or not) of any of the actions made + take lots of pics - they are indeed worth a thousand words or scribbles even if you are trying hit the 'undo' button.

- pace yourself with mods: essential to deploy them one-at-a-time so you can really appreciate the difference (or not?). I stupidly combined the above speaker swap-out with a pre-amp valve (tube) renewal and wondered why the sound had suddenly become ice-pick/glassy - was the Gold that bad?

Answer = no, the culprit was the new JJ ECC81 Gold-pin (AT7) I had installed in the PI position - this was instantly fixed by replacing the original tube and the JJ now going back to the dealer.

Anyone else experienced this phenomenon when replacing the PI tube in DRRI?

FBB.

Couple of things. Try to stay away from new issue gold pin tubes (be it JJ or Ei or whatever). The extra thickness of the pins can tweak the sockets so that other tubes don't fit so well, anymore. I call it the "Johnny Wad Effect." If you catch my drift...

Second: I think for Fender PI and esp for reverb driver stage, you really can't beat the Philips/Sylvania mil spec 12AT7WA, -WB or -WC. And they cost about the same as a new JJ. The very best are the triple mica Sylvania 12AT7WA (but they are pricey now).

Ok... they sound a bit "tight" at first. Like a lot of mil spec tubes, they can take a bit to break-in. But, I like the tone after, say 25 hours. And these puppies last. Just my experience, mind you.

Here's what you do: Forget all about that macho $hit and learn how to play guitar!

I've always wanted to say that to someone - now I have. Check that one off my really lame bucket list.

 Well, being that teach and play guitar for a living, one word of advice: You never "learn" to play the guitar, you are always LEARNING how to play the guitar. And again, the purpose of most of these mods are for usability for gigging guitarists. Also, knowing how to do guitar and amp work yourself can save you thousands of $ $ a year if you are putting 30+hrs/week on your gear.
