Trying to decide between Princeton Reverb and Deluxe Reverb. I need an amp that I can use for both jazz and rock. I also need an amp with a great clean sound. I play a Les Paul for rock and a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III Semi-Hollowbody for jazz. Any insight? Is a princeton really too quiet for rock drummers? A Blues Jr. is certainly loud enough. Also, anyone try putting a 12" with a new baffler into a princeton?

Thanks

If you gig, I'd recommend the DRRI. The two channels with separate EQ will come in real handy. The Princeton, as nice as it sounds, lacks a bit of power and headroom unless play small clubs or you mic it in larger clubs. If you play small clubs and have a great drummer, the Princeton could work. I know the Princeton fans will come out of the woodwork and disagree with me, but I've had both amps in the past and the Princeton was used more for recording than gigging.

+1 on all points.

As for "diddling" with the Princeton's speaker complement, I put two twelves in mine.

You'll find an illustration of it in the latest Guinness Book under the listing for "world's loudest twelve-watt amp".

I do like to mic in larger clubs. I guess what I want to know is if the Princeton was louder with the same exact tone, would anyone choose it over the Deluxe? Would it make a nice jazz amp, too?

Thanks, both of you, for your input.

Definately the DRRI.More headroom , and you are gonna need it with humbuckers.I play both my strats and the Gibson LP thru it and the Gibson pushes the drri pretty hard.As Supro said , The 2 channels are handy when you are playing 2 different guitars.

The DRRI....for gigging it's a good one,but also with a loud drummer it will get dirty especially driving it with a Les Paul's humbuckers....but that's a good part of the mystique of the DR.

Another vote for the DRRI. Not that there's anything wrong with the PRRI... but for an extra $100 you get a lot, 2 channels, 12" speaker and bigger cab, and more power.

I never noticed the blue jewel light before. Sweet. Anyway, that's what you need to do to a Princeton to get it to real band volume levels.

You might drool over that Princeton, but damn , that Deluxe Reverb with the 15 " speaker gets my attention. 8)

I'm currently building a second one, Bud.

It will be for a silverface chassis, with drip-edge molding around the grill and the silver/black/blue cloth.

I am looking forward to the pics when you finish it Arjay.I have got to think the 15 inch gives it a bigger sound with more bottom end, right?

Indeed, it's like fat city.

Articulate, full-bodied, and significantly louder at any given volume setting over a standard DR with a 12-driver......very reminescent of a Vibroverb, only with a more-manageable 22-watt platform.
