I bought a used CVR on e-bay. I had heard about the hiss/noise/early breakup/weak reverb/ rumours. First I re tubed with quality tubes. I find the SED 6L6 output tubes work perfectly for this amp.. Then I had all the caps replaced since mine is an early model. I used highest quality caps available. That quieted her down. Then I had "The Moyer Mods" plus circuit mods done. It's a Vibroverb circuit now. Channel 1 is Brown faced with reverb taken out. The "Bright" channel is Black faced with normal Fender reverb. The Vibrato is to die for. These amps stock are fine if you're looking for an early breakup blues/rock amp. With 40 watts: they're plenty loud enough. Incidentally, I used re-cap & mod kits from John Fromel Electronics.
