I refuse to be a slave to the whole "cult of personality" movement.

I play Leo's guitar and Leo's amp and that's as far as it needs to go IMO.

I wouldn't dispute this possibility but such a assertion requires some substantiating evidence......

I believe Fender was building him custom amps most recently, but he's used Marshalls, Music Man, Fender, Soldano through the ages... lot of different amps but had not heard of any smaller boutique builders.

And the final bit of information... Clapton is from England. Fender amps are were cost prohibitive to import, so guitarist's went to Marshall and Vox. According to his own website, he didn't start using Fender Custom Shop amps until a few years ago. Prior to that, all the signature Eric Clapton we know came from Marshall and Soldano.

You inferred that Clapton used "boutique" amps. I wouldn't consider Marshall or Soldano as members of that rarified realm, and I doubt anyone else here would either.

Seems like I've read or seen somewhere that he uses Victoria twins on the Crossroads dvd.

Victoria definitely qualifies as a boutique builder (perhaps the best of the breed). And if Clapton's use of their amps can be substantiated that would certainly let some wind out of the FMIC sails as far as Fender being his exclusive gear of choice.

+1 Right now Victoria is the closest thing to the real deal. They capture the real magic of the old Fender designs. Even more so than Fender's Reissues IMO. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty. You don't see that very often in guitar amps.

Absolutely!

Victoria builds the mojo into every amp they sell.

guys, you are a tough crowd. yeh it's a twin (which now is a lower priced custom shop amp) with a tremelo( sort of a bluesbreaker an't it). don't bash eric because fender sticks a high price on the amp with his sig on it. hell he's probably the reason most of us play guitar. i agree it's more a marketing scheme. you can get a do-it-yourself tweed twin from any on line store these days($950). probably sound as good or better than fenders, but there's some folks that will buy these amps although like most people this day and time i won't be one of them. even so i still would if i could. i'll likely get a diy tweed twin and tweek it to my specs. love the amps or leave 'em. it's e.c. after all.

Those straps are what they called the "Stained Glass" pattern,I've recently found out.
Souldier straps has a copy of it with either the black ends or white like the pictures show....I'm going to buy one just 'cause Duane had one...and y'all of course too.
It was one of several popular "Ace" brand straps I believe, back in the '60's.
Thanks for the pics guys....and I guess we might have derailed the EC artist amp thread...sorry.

Yep. I had an Ace "Woodstock" strap too. Wish I still had them both. Worth a few bucks these days. I could probably retire on what my (unknown) guitar and amp in that photo are worth today. They are probabaly a lot rarer and valuable than those "regular production" Fender things that Arjay is playing.
