Where can I order one of these??? Since I consider EC's tone today to be one of the worst I ever heard I can't wait to get my hands on one of the amps he helped develop!
When I think of great tones out there, EC doesnt even pop up on my radar.I like his style of playing , but his tone is just ok in my book. When is the last time you saw someone posting "trying to nail the EC tone" ? When I think of tone there are alot of guys on the heap way ahead of him.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy a RELIABLE new entry level amp. Look, take the Fender Champion 600 Reissued amp (which goes for under $200). Put in another $100 for better quality boards and parts. Put it into a plain-Jane cab (what's with all this Reissued look-alikes anyhow? Fender never had them in their glory days). Tighten up the QA.

How many ppl would buy it? At $300? And not have to worry about paying another $100 for after-market mods and parts. And all the hassles of getting the mods put in? And the extra reliabililty issues with after-market mods.

Certainly would appeal to a wider audience than an EC blessed tweed Champ. I would think.

I'd like to see this philosophy (which is to say, Leo's philosophy) applied across the entire line. It oughta be good for recapturing at least 20% of the market share lost to the new up-start companies that take the time to build a quality product right from the git.

Arjay, Seems too obvious. Build amps aimed at entry-level, mid-level, and Pro. Wasn't this the philosophy that made Fender what it is? Not making one-off boutique amps geared to pedestrian old coggers, taking up the guitar as a hobby. This is not wine collecting for God's sake.

And as for "EC" blessed amps. Do they come with his fingers, too? Crazy.

Indeed.

And back in the day, the amps were all built to the same standards of durability and reliability. Which is precisely why there are still plenty of fifty-year old Champs and Princetons around.

Anybody wanna bet that thirty or forty years from today we'll see Ebay listings for a mid-2000's Frontman 15R?

Slowhand did have some sweet tones in his early years... when he still had Blackie, like in this vid with The Band, I believe he was plugged in to a Music Man amp back then.

Or his work with Mayall, I know, he probably wasn't playing Fender in that album, but still, great tone IMO. Remember everyone talking about that "woman tone"?

Nowadays I can't stand hearing a single note coming out of him! :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvI0P6o_H8kTrue enough, but as legendary as his woman tone is , his recent tones are quite forgettable. His signature amps are based more on his current stuff which is not that impressive, at least not impressive enough to spend some serious coin on .

Nowadays I can't stand hearing a single note coming out of him! :(

Budglo, EC used the famous "Bluesbreaker" JTM45 model 1962 50watt Marshall combo for his work on the "Beano" album. His particular amp was loaded with MOV/GEC KT-66 tubes. Earlier versions had TungSol 5881. Later, Mullard EL34's. Interestingly, the circuit is based on the tweed Bassman.

I've played on a vintage Bluesbreaker with KT-66's. It's has to be one of the most aggressive tone amps ever made.

Thanks BMW! Couldn't remember the details of the Bluesbreaker.... wasn't he also playing a LP?

I believe it was the same LP he used on some of the early "Fresh Cream" tracks and which was later stolen.

that picture was with cream around late 67 or early 68. when he was with the bluesbreakers he wanted a fender like freddie king played whitch was a showman if i'm not mistaken.the fenders at that time were impossible to get in england so he got a marshall whitch were avalible there. so he sort-of settled for the next best thing. hmmmm.back in those days fender was the top-of-the-line stuff.all the musicians of the day had fender amps. he knew a good thing when he saw it or heard it as the case was.it just turned out the marshall jtm-45 combo had more "ballz" and that was the difference that made him stand out. nobody at the time had put a l.p. with a marshall and used it like he did. now with the new amps oviously they will be tube because thats what the e.c. strat was made to be used with. i suppose fender is more or less creating a "pairing"or a guitar and amp system. i like the stuff but the price is a big turn off. i agree with one of the posts they should be more intrested with peoples economic situation at this time. or maybe e.c. should be. after all the blues musicians he loves so much were mostly poor folks.

I could be mistaken, but didn't EC play the Cream reunion shows on tweed Bassman amps? Does anyone know this to be true?

He played Fender Tweed Twins that Fender custom made for him at the Cream Shows.

He used just one, with the other as a backup.

Those CS low-power 5E8 re-issue's never really showed me anything. Good for some tweed "Layla" tones perhaps but for a traditional Cream vibe, fuggedaboutit.
