Try it in dark, without your glasses, with two or three guys in your band arguing over which song to play next and a crowd of drunks anxious to groove.

You bedroom players crack me up.

Hey, Arjay. You're x-military. I'm sure that they taught you how to read gauges and knobs in low light based on the position of the pointers. I would bet that it is easier to tell the position of a chicken head knob under those conditions that any Blackface or Brownface knob. Why would the military have used them on so many pieces of gear? One doesn't need to see the numbers with a chicken head. You got that big pointer telling you where the knob is set instead of a little white line or a number on a knob.

A total non sequiter.

I'm licensed to pilot an aircraft too -- but I wouldn't want to try it IN THE DARK WITH THE GODDAMM INSTRUMENT PANEL INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN.

And while I worked on many pieces of gear in the military that were older than me, not one of them were equipped with those miserable Marconi-esque chickenshit knobs. They went out with heliographs and spark-gap transmitters around the time that the Titanic set sail from Liverpool.

Priceless!!!! Thanks for sharing that wisdom Arjay - this is the kind of thing that makes forums really worth the time we all waste on them.

My point was that if EC was really redesigning a classic to his spec. then he'd want the panel layout sensibly arranged. However, after posting I realised he's probably never touched his knobs (chickenshit or otherwise) in the last 30-years: he likely has a 'boy' on-call hiding behind his stack to make any adjustments needed.

Just a thought to explain the unexplainable?

Feed.

Likely true, FBB.

If I had the stature of EC (and his budget) I'd have a tech on staff to handle all of the chores.

Plus some roadies, an agent, a caterer, a limo full of nubile groupies......

maybe everyone would feel better if all you guys pool your money and buy a twinolux and smash it with a sledgehammer. dang, i don't think i have ever read such hatered for an amp. i don't even think the hot rod series got such a bad rap. i watched a video on youtube of a demo of these amps and they sounded damn good(even on youtube). a '54-'57 twin it an't, but nice none the less. by the way I have played a '56 twin and that old guy that owns it will not sell it. ever , because he knows what he has.

Just because we post on a Fender forum doesn't mean we are head over heels in love with everything Fender sells. Everyone has a right to their opinion and to post it here.

Just to chime in here. This is the biggest difference between Fender fanboys and Gibson fanboys. Gibson's lemmings would jump off a bridge if Gibson told them to. Fender's fans love Fender, but we also take pride in publicly bashing everything they do while secretly coveting these new toys.

wow people still quoting that post.....anyway back to the amp. i was doing a little research and read that the cornell custom 80 also has a power reduction switch it goes from 80 to 20 watts. these go 40 to 20 watts. it seems that eric still likes his cornell option. i think i would like the attenuator/speaker reducer switch.the twin type amps can benifit from this mod. another web site i was on said that 90% of guitarists haven't heard an older, nice tube amp. and blues type sounds are best through an amp with a tube rectifier. guess i'm in the top 10%. i sence some sour grapes. i didn't mean any harm by any of that post. just calling them like i see them.

Are you saying that you think you're in the top 10% of players here who have heard a nice old tube amp?...if that's what you're calling sour grapes referring to negative comments by uneducated tube afficianados ....you have no idea who some of us are.
Alot of us who have commented here own some of the most desirable Fender tube amps ever made....back when Leo owned the place.
Just mosey over to the vintage amp section and educate us some more....we're usually hanging out there, and aren't hard to find.

no.. i'm saying that i have had the opertunity to play a '56 twin(of corse it has been repaired and re tubed many times sence my old friend bought it back in the early '60s).the damn thing is nice(eventhough it looks like it has been drug down the road).just saying that i'm in what that web site called the 10%. unfortunately i don't own one. i'm happy you do. go easy man i'm not going to punch you. dang.that 56 is the sound i wish i could get with my modern equipment. the e.c. amp comes close. thats all i'm saying. did someone spit on you as a child? you have an attatude. it's just the web man , a place to learn. or is it? everyone wants to constantly be hostile to each other. everyone here must be browbeaten' by someone daily. all everyone wants to do is fight. to hell with this. it's just a stupid amp. enjoy your VINTAGE amps.

At the end of the day, we're all aficionados of Fender amps -- whether vintage or contemporary. Don't let us curmudgeons wrap you around the axle with our tirades.

Well.....I picked up my tremolux yesterday and I love it...I am an endorsee so I get pretty good deals...however I traded a Deluxe Reverb and Blues Jnr plus some pedals at a friends guitar shop after having a play through it in the shop.
I thought I was a died in the wool blackface player...and I do love them...but this was a knockout.
Its a case of ignorance being an advantage with me because I dont really know that much about the various vintage amps.
I was using a Formula 5 pedal on my board and read that its an emulation of the tweed deluxe circuit...I shrugged and though..."ok ...cool"...but I knew I liked the sound.
My decision to get the amp was based on what my ears (and back) told me as I didnt have an preconceptions to get past.
I couldnt really be less interested about the Clapton link...although I love his playing....if that were the case,I would be playing a Clapton Strat...I play a deluxe Tele...Im a working musician and therefore my amp needs to serve my needs...this fits perfectly and I love it for what it is...not what it represents...cheers

Great point, and the exact same reasons that I got my BJr. No reviews, no recommendations, just played several different amps and picked one that was the best of the bunch for what I wanted. :D

Congrats again on your new amp. Are you sure that removing the EC badge on the front wouldn't ruin the sound?
