Hi.
I have a Fender Frontman 25R. It has recently developed a loud buzz whenever I turn it on. I tried all my cables, both guitars, both effects pedals, and still it buzzed. I then checked in the back for loose connections - nothing. By chance I have discovered that if I touch the inner back panel (angled one) for a second or so the buzzing stops. Everthing is then fine until next time I turn it on when the buzzing is back until I touch the inside panel again as described. No idea what this could be - any ideas would be very much appreciated. John.

OK, not to alarm you... but please do not touch the back of the amp to test buzz problem again. You prolly have a broken connection to ground within the circuitry. By touching the metal chassis, you have effectively become a better grounding point. Or part of an open circuit and the inherent capacitance of your body is helping to reduce the hum. Just a WAG...

I believe it maybe time to see an amp tech.

I have kind of the same thing happening on my 25R, only it occurs when plug something (like an iPod or other device for playback) into the AUX IN ports.

And John, mine does some buzzing at random times, but it goes away if I give a very light tap on the top.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice - I will check as suggested, but looks like it's the repair man for the amp. Thanks again. John.

I'll be honest with you. Unless the 25R is still under warranty, a repair will probably cost more than the amp is worth. I would suggest that you consider replacing the amp with something better. Tube or solid state. Your choice. I own a Frontman 25R, as well as a Blues Deluxe Reissue. If my 25R ever dies, I plan on pulling out the Eminence Ragin Cajun I installed and toss the amp. I might keep some parts like the knobs, switch, cabinet, etc. but the amp and chassis is disposable as far as I am concerned.
