I got lucky when I found a Musicman 65 reverb head for sale at a local pawn shop about 10 years ago. I've never had to do any maintenance on it since day 1. More recently I found a great deal on an HD One-fifty and can I tell you this is just one of many great MM models out there that you can find for next to nothing. If you like 'playing' with pedals, Music man amps are great. They have a solid state pre and tube power so you can get a nice warm LOUD sound and they easily take on any pedal you throw at them. I really can't say enough. Great amps!

Great amps. Real reliable too. I'd take one over the newer lower end Fenders tube amps like the HRDlx, Deville, or Blues Jr. any day.

I've used the HD one fifty more than a couple of times for bass, in the studio and live. It really has its own character tonally. The 65 reverb sounds great with the Tech 21 Tri OD pedal that I have. It has sort of a '59 Bassman channel (Tweed), a Mesa-ish channel (California) and a pretty convincing Marshall (British) channel. The Music Man amps may not quite have the tone you're looking for, but it's very easy to coax what you want out of them with the right pedal. The one thing that is really worth checking out is the Reverb and Tremolo on these amps. The Trem may not be to practical an effect, but the reverb is definitely "Fender inspired". Don't get me wrong, these aren't Fender amps, but they are worth every penny if you find one that suits you.

Leo didn't design the amps. He had an independent company (CLF Research) that built the basses and guitars. The amps were designed by Tom Walker and constructed in a plant separate from where Leo worked. He invested money in MM but he was not really a principal in the company, which was Tom Walker and Forrest White.

I owned an early (preamp tube) HD-130 Reverb + 212 cab, and it was a killer for clean. I used it for a bass amp for several years with a Hartke 410XL speaker and it was loud.

I finally got tired of hauling it around (with the Hartke it totaled 144 lb) and traded it on smaller gear, but it was excellent. Had it weighed about 1/3 what it did, I'd still have it.

Had a 112 rd back in 1980-1983 and loved that amp! Loud as hell but with chanel switching was very expressive and controlable. I would love to find a mint piece and have been on the hunt. It was the first chanel switching amp that I had ever used and I never had an issue with it in the four years @ 3-5 nights a week that it was in service.

I agree...that was a great little amp. It gave a Mesa a run for it's money for half the price. I frequently regret selling the one I had.

Looks like a sweet set-up. What speakers do you have that cab loaded with?

I just noticed I was repeating what I'd said earlier (Leo Fender did NOT design M/M amps) so I deleted this post.

Found this in a music shop in Sheffield, England in 1989.
Bought it for £300.
My wife puts her keyboard through it, sings and I play my Squier through it.

Yeah, neat amps!! Played a 4X10 sixty-five for a few years in a band. Used a Champ 12 in the front end, so the guitar would see a tube first. Kind of snobbish, now that I look back. That amp was just fine on it's own. A 12AT7( I think) for the PI and EL34's in the output section. Those are great rhythm amps IMO. Art
