Hey amp gurus...So at work today I noticed a red-knob Fender Super 112 combo amp sitting in the used gear section. It has no tag yet so I'm assuming it just came in today, or yesterday at the earliest. Cosmetically the amp looks pretty good with only a few small tears in the tolex, and a dusty grille. So, I came to you guys for a little general info on the Super 112. Questions being...

Does anyone know the basic specs of this amp? I have looked online and found very little info. I didn't have a chance to gather any of the info on it, but I can get some specifics tomorrow.

Were the Super 112s reliable amps, or were they plagued with constant issues like later Fender models which shall remain nameless... 8) ?

Last question being...what would be a fair price for one of these amps in good working condition? I should be able to purchase the amp for the same price it was sold to the store for, so I may be able to get a rippin' deal on this one, if it's worth my cash.

Sniff... Wah... :(

I owned a late 80's Fender Super 60, 1x12. It was an awesome amp, solid tube, and had a hell of a great sound.

The red knob Fender Super's were made by Paul Riviera, who worked for Fender, before he ventured out on his own and created the Riviera amps.

Here's a photo of one (lifted off Ebay...)

Here's a better, more close up photo of the front panel.

I WISH I STILL HAD MINE!!!!

Fender made the Super 112 Red knob amp made from 1988 to 1993 and had 2 6L6s, two channels with a notch filter on the Gain channel. It had a 12AT7, and 2 x 12AX7s for preamps tubes and its output was 60 watts. Came with a 12 inch Eminence speaker. It ran about $669 but looked indistinguishable from the cheaper (but fine sounding) solid state amps of the same period. It was also the ONLY 2 6L6 tubed amp Fender had during this time frame.

And agreed, they were fine sounding amps.

+1

These were righteous rigs back in the day, if not "traditional" in terms of Fender's typical cosmetics (I suppose it could be re-grilled and re-knobbed to assuage the purist......like me, ha ha!).

And as Tony mentioned, this Super was Fender's only intermediate-power tube platform during the era.

$350 should cover the damages......

G'day, If you think the 112 is heavy, try lugging around this Super 210.

Yeah, but for their size they're heavy. They seem to weigh twice as much as the non-tube red knob amps.
I'll keep mine. (might get a trolley made  )

That's because a tube chassis has three or four times the iron as its solid-state equivalent.

I read a interview where Paul Riveria states he had no part in these amps as they came out shortly after his tenure. Not his design . The super60 and the super112 are the same amp, ,the 112 being a larger cabinet and came with both red knobs or black knobs. I have both a super60 and a super112. Because of the larger cab the 112 sounds better. love both amps

Mark Wentling was a big part of building this amp. Pretty sure he was close with Leo Fender, building amps at both Fender and Music Man. Paul Rivera was prior to the red knobs.
