I love the Super Sonic...it's my main amp but I don't like the REVERB. It sounds muddy or mushy and I rarely set it above 2. Even then it's dull and muds up the sound. Is there any mod or fix for this? Should I try a different spring tank? Is there possibly a tube that has a problem?

I am seeking any and all advice. Thee reverb was so disappointing.

Hi ournative,

It is possibly a tube problem. The reverb driver 12AT7, or the reverb recovery 12AX7. It could also be a tank problem or even something else, but you might try some new tubes first. Do you still have warranty? Check for warranty before you do anything else. Maybe you could delete your other thread, you don't need two for the same thing, and the other one comes off a little harsh anyway.

I like the Reverb on my S. Sonic 112, but I've noticed it is quite a bit less bright than my SilverFace Tube Reverb (like the reissue reverb units but '70's). The S. Sonic also hums when the reverb is turned up and one of the reverb tubes is microphonic. I'm replacing both reverb tubes this weekend - I'll let you know if it brightens things up at all.

ournative - Spending about $20 bucks to replace the reverb tubes is a better alternative than the $649 '63 reverb box...

Seriously, here is my lousy demo of my hot rod tele through my 2006 60w super sonic. For the first 3-4 minutes, the reverb is turned up to 2, and as you will hear, that is plenty of reverb.

...yeah, I just put two new reverb tubes in. Much nicer - very bright and splashy - just like it should sound - before it was very dull. Try new tubes for sure!

Redfarfisa - what brand did you go with? I've been tempted for years to go with the Mullard 12AT7WA / CV4024 as I keep reading is it simply the best reverb tube on earth, but at $30 a pop for a guy whole usually play it with reverb between 1 and 2, I'm not sure the $60 is really worth it in my case (i.e. maybe I should spend it on beer & pizza instead...).

I just got the exact same tubes that were in there - one was a Sovtek (sp?) - the original had been re-branded Fender. The other was a Groove Tube
