I see the Jazzmaster Ultralight is gone from the products page. MF has been offering them only as "used" for a while, so I knew they were on the way out (and, some time prior to that, the cabinets were discontinued). I bought one (with the 2 ohm cabinet) three years ago, and it's a terrific amplifier. Twenty six lb, 250 watts, reverb, delay and chorus; with a gigbag for the head and foot pedal, included Speakon and pedal cables, it was a cleverly packaged and highly portable amp that sounds great on a wide variety of material. A guy at a jazz forum reported carrying his to gigs on a bicycle! A good friend of mine constantly borrows mine to plug his Fishman-equipped Martin cutaway dreadnaught as well as his electric solid and hollow body electrics.

I understand it's all about marketing and what moves out of the stores, but I'm sure glad I got mine before the plug was pulled. It's the only amplifier I have that won't be sold. It didn't seem to get much promotion: when I went to my local Fender dealer to order one, he had never heard of it. I posted a positive review on his web site, but I am sure that mine is the only one in the area.

I plug my ES-335 into it and I can tweak nearly any sound I want out of it. It ain't the huge stack/male jewelry a lot of younger players are into, but it fits into just about any playing situation with its small footprint and compact form factor. You can set the head on the speaker and tilt the combination back on a stand without anything falling off. I play it at folkie events, church, and on stage. I love that little amp.

So here's to you, JM: long may you prosper in my music room. And for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to try one: I'm sorry for your loss.

Products constantly come and go, and people inevitably lament their passing into obscurity. Obviously FMIC mis-read the market for this amp since so few were sold (lack of a credible advertising campaign with enthusiastic endorsements?) and it's doubtful that the company will ever recoup its R&D investment. That said, it's always possible that the amp may develop a cult following in the ensuing years to provide the impetus for a re-issue (like so many other Fender products). Time will tell, I suppose......

Up until I opened this thread, I don't think I had ever heard of these amps, and I spend a lot of time on music sites and reading music publications. I feel like I have a vague recollection of seeing one once in an MF catalog, but I'm not entirely sure I have ever seen one.

Also in term of technology, this amp is a kind of PWM amp, not usual for guitars.
