I know that it looks odd, but I can't find anywhere in the official fender website. So here I am: Where are the '65 Twin Reverb amplifiers made today... Are they made in the USA, México, China, other place or it is something uncertain? If I buy online what are the chances today?

Thanks in advance.

From incept until roughly 1998 -- Lake Oswego, Oregon (the old Sunn plant). Henceforth -- Corona, California. Those from Oregon have an "LO" prefix in the serial number while those from California read "CA".

Thanks for your replies. But after posting here I've asked/bother a few sellers and I'm in shock: The Stock they are handling nowadays is made in Mexico.

Maybe I ask the wrong guys (sellers) but obviously there is some lack of information here or there. I'm not pointing to anyone (I'm the first uninformed) I'm only saying that there is something that don't match and I want to know why. hehe.

So I'm curious where did you get, shimmilou, that the TRRI is made in USA (did I get it wrong assuming that you say that is the only place where is it made? If I did please excuse me).

As Retroverbial says, well, yes, a serial number will be more conclusive. Any example of one recently acquire?

There's no "lack of information" with me.

All Fender amps with the product code number beginning with "217" or "0217" are made in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

It is your sellers who are misinformed.

I would really like to hear from Fender on this one. Multiple dealers have told me that the only amps still made in the USA are the custom series. I also know that when I called about a warranty claim on my brand new SRRI, the fender agent told me that it was, in fact, made in Mexico, as were all the vintage reissues. I don't have facts, so I'm not disputing. I'd just like to see the straight answer in writing from Fender.

Arjay, where does your information come from? I know for a fact that the cabinets for even the custom series are made in mexico. I've got a buddy who was there and took pictures of the things. That same info can be found anywhere on the internet. So at a minimum, under current laws (of which I am familiar from my own occupation), these could be labeled as "Assembled in U.S.A." at most. You are presenting what you have as the facts while I've got other people who have gotten pissed off at me and told me that anyone claiming they are made in Corona don't have their facts straight. If you know for sure, please point to your source. For the record, while my Blues Jr. and Mustang III are each clearly labeled, "Made in Mexico" and "Made in China," my SRRI lacks any statement of where it is made or assembled. I'm not trying to be difficult, just seeking further details.

Easy enough -- I looked at the back panel of a representative example of each of these amp lines then correlated their stated country-of-origin with the catalog production numbers. Neither of my Lake Oswego-built TRRI and DRRI amps specifically states "Made In U.S.A." (just as with your SRRI), merely marked as "Manufactured by Fender Musical Instrument Corporation -- Brea, California" (the imports say this as well but with the added caveat of "Made In XXXXXX" to differentiate them from the US-built products). I believe you are correct about the cabinetry and its origin. As well, the US-made re-issues are loaded with imported componentry. As for your hypothesis that they really should say "Assembled In U.S.A.", that's something you'll have to take up with the US Federal Trade Commission. For the record I am in agreement with you but apparently the feds are incapable of making that distinction.

Thanks, Arjay. I've also read that the PCB's are actually put together in Mexico as well but I have no first hand knowledge of that. At the end of the day, I suppose the quality is what matters most - no matter where they come from. (Although I am a supporter of keeping as many jobs as we can in the U.S. - even if there is a premium. If it saves one U.S. job to assemble foreign components in Corona, I'll take that over the alternative.) I appreciate your help.

Fender has long had an arrangement with Mexico which actually goes back to the late 70's when they arranged to have a substantial number of circuit boards for the very last production runs of silverface amps assembled there. Quality remained quite high and I believe that contributed to FMIC's decision to open a corporate plant there later on. They have a skilled workforce in place, climatic conditions are favorable, and there are fewer onerous goverment agencies demanding a "mordida" of one sort or another than in California.

California might as well be Mexico.

California once WAS Mexico. So I guess that even if it is built/assembled in Corona, chances are they are being built/assembled by Mexicans or people of Mexican descent. Point is, for me it doesn't really matter so long as the quality of the product is good?
