Hi all,

Just wonderred if anyone had any thoughts on or experience with these amps? The LC30 seems to generally have fairly good reviews online and ive wanted a valve amp i can easily lug around to gigs for a while, one has come up locally for £150 so im considerring it.

I had been set on trying to get one of the little marshall JTM30`s but the unreliability of them fially pursuaded me not to, id even paid for one on ebay when the seller suddenly let me know that it had broken down and the shop coudnt fix it, so i had to get a refund!

I play mainly indie rock and blues rock in my band, using a MIM 50`s player strat.

Thanks

I am a huge fan of Laney amps. IMO the LC30 is nice, but I really prefer the VC30. However that price seems more than fair (if I'm correct that would be just under $300), so long as the amp is in proper, serviceable condition. Laney amps always have beautiful clean channels, and they have a good reputation for reliability.

I own one that I bought 6 years ago at Sam Ash for the ridiculous price of $250. It screams if you push it and it cleeans up very nice. I am a fan of the reverb in this amp.

Tim, ive taken what you said on board (and found lots of reviews online that seem to agree with your view) and am going to a guys house tonight to look at a VC30 for £200 instead of the cheaper LC model. Seems like a great amp for the money. Thanks again!

I've had an LC30 MkII for about eight years and I really love it, although over the years I've changed the speaker and the brand of tubes. The cleans are very Fender-ish, and it has a completely separate channel with gain and tone controls for the overdrive, which the VC30 does not.

I also have the Mustang III, and the LC30 cleans are very close to that amp's Fender Twin Reverb model--without the fizz problem that plagues the Mustang III. So right now the Mustang III is the backup amp for my LC30, which is still my main gigging amp. If they ever fix the fizz on the Mustang III, I would certainly gig with it.

Well good luck Olly! Hopefully the amp is in good shape, and fits all of your requirements. The VC30 is one of the nicest sounding amps out IMO.
Keep us updated and show off the new amp (whatever you get) when you get it!

Hi all,

Thanks again for all the advice. Just to update you, i’ve managed to get the VC30 112 for what seemed to me to be a more than fair price of £200. It is in great condition and all stock still as far as i can tell. It seems to really love my strat and tele, the tone is unreal. Still cant believe the sound you can get out of this valve amp for the price you pay.

Long story short, and to try to avoid gushing too much in public... I am happy. What’s more, my main gigging guitar, Charles (my MIM classic players 50`s strat), seems to love it too. They are now inseparable :D

I’ve never posted pictures here before but will give it a go.

Very nice! The first time I played through a Laney was with a Strat; what a beautiful combination. Congrats on the new amp.
